On Telecoms is a Greek telecommunications company offering triple play services mainly in Athens through Local Loop Unbundling. On Telecoms is reportedly expected to launch services also in the city of Larissa (where it is the main sponsor of the local football team Larissa F.C.) and later in Thessaloniki. Although a new entrant in the Greek telecom market, funded and managed by Greek and Italian telecom specialists, by entering into the market when LLU started to become popular, On Telecoms managed to become one of the top 5 Greek private companies in number of subscribers (as of January 2008).

On Telecoms offers residential and businesses packages and is currently one of the two Greek companies (together with Vivodi) offering cable (IPTV) television in Greece.

[edit] Residential plans

On Telecoms offers three residential subscription plans:

  • All in one which offers telephony, internet and IPTV services with 35€/month.
  • Telephony & Internet which offers telephony and internet services with 32€/month
  • Telephony & TV which offers telephony and IPTV services with 27€/month.

For applications up to 31 March 2008, On Telecoms offers all the above packages for 27€/month and upgrades them all for free to the "All in one" package until 31 December 2008.

Activation fee: 65€ for existing lines transferring from OTE or another provider (with or without number portability, 95€ for new lines.

Present On Telecoms subscribers can invite a friend to sign-up for the service. If they do join then both users (old and new) get one month of free service.

Free equipmnet provided on lease (must be returned upon disconnection).

12-month commitment. Disconnection fee equal to the remaining monthly installments until the end of the 12-month period.

A second line through VoIP is offered with 12€/month. Calls made from the second line to Greek fixed phones and ON15 destinations are not free but are charged at 0,09€/call. Calls to Greek mobile charged at 0,17€/minute.

Additional telephony services (including Caller ID) are offered at 4€/month.

[edit] Telephony

The service offers unlimited calls from the PSTN line to fixed phones in Greece and 15 international destinations (including mobile phones in the USA and Canada. The 15 countries included in the unlimited calls offer, referred to as "ON15" are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada*, Cyprus, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA*

  • mobile phones also included in those countries.

The internet service offers up to 16 Mbip/s download and 1 Mbit/s upload through ADSL2+ technology. The company website officially mentions 512 kbit/s as the upload speed but all users receive 1 Mbit/s for the upload.

The television service offers all major Greek channels and some foreign channels. An Electronic Program Guide is available for all channels (including the DTT ones). Teletext is also available on channels that transmit it (including the DTT ones) if it is supported by the subscriber's television set. There is also an NPVR service that offers all programming of the past 3 days (72 hours) from all major Greek channels, called "On Rec" and offered free of charge. The channels whose programming is available through this service are marked with an asterisk on the list below. Pay-per-view services are also offered under the "On Cinema" brand, with a 1,99€/24 hours for normal movies and 3,99€/24 hours for adult movies. Users can also subscribe to the Nova pay TV service and choose their Nova subscription through their remote control, but a separate subscription must be paid to Nova for this service. The service is advertised as "HDTV-ready", but is currently offered in SDTV, occupying about 4 Mbit/s of the user's bandwidth when the IPTV service is used.

On Telecoms also offers On TV Games which is actually five simple arcade games one can play with their remote control. The games currently offered are: Grid Lock, Alien Attack, Snake, Memory Game, Cubix and Solitaire.

The channels currently offered on the main package by On telecoms (not including the Nova pay TV channels) are:

  • Baby TV (special TV channel for children in English) €3.50/month

(*) Channels marked with an asterisk (*) on the list are also available with the "On Rec" NPVR service, this means that their programming of the past 72-hours is available on-demand to users.

The On Telecoms decoder also includes a DTT decoder that can receive ERT Digital channels currently available in Greece in DTT, when connected to an antenna:

[edit] Equipment

The equipment is offered free of charge to the customer and must be returned to On Telecoms upon disconnection.

  • A Pirelli Wifi ADSL2+ router is provided, including 4 Ethernet ports, a USB port and 2 VoIP ports (one of them used for the extra phone line if requested). It supports WEP and WPA2 security for Wifi as well as port forwarding to users.
  • A Sagem IPTV and DTT set-top box is provided for the television service (in packages that include TV, and is connected to one of the four ports of the Pirelli router.

A user can operate the internet service with different equipment but the IPTV service will only work with the set-top box provided connected to the router provided.

The Pirelli router and the Sagem set-top box can be remotely accessed by On telecoms for firmware upgrades and troubleshooting.
