On (Gary Glitter album)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ON is an album, Gary Glitter's last album so far that was produced in 2001. The songs were only ever heard in his last concerts in 1996 and 1997. The album, was only released for a short time through Glitter"s website after Glitter was convicted of possessing pornographic pictures of children, sold over 5,000 copies worldwide.
The ballad "Never Want The Rain" was co-written between Glitter and Martin Jenkins, as well as eight of the twelve songs. The other three songs are new versions of previous recordings by Glitter. "Hooked On Hollywood" and "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again" were written by Glitter and Mike Leander, first recorded in the 1970s. "Ready To Rock" is a track Glitter recorded for his 1992 album Leader 2. Though Glitter has not issued a new studio album since ON, he has continued to release singles.
As children are the biggest buyers of pop music, controversy arose around the release of this album due to assertions that Glitter was exploiting children. In response to the complaints, the British Phonographic Industry issued a statement saying Glitter was now a free man and can do what he wants as far as making music is concerned[1].
