[edit] So, A Bad Connection

Hi, on2see here. I need a little help.
1.
If you check the history page, and see this edit, you can see an IP address doing this. I created my sig template page from school, which has both a fast and reliable connection, which will actually remember my Wikipedia cookies!
2.
I use this satellite connection, which, as it says on the page for it, is known for using IP swapping for each of its consumers, meaning that since the IP I logged into from was recently swapped, I'm not even considered logged in anymore.

Now, I want to make Wikipedia edits quite badly from home, but thanks to this horrible connection, I have to accept that I'm not taking credit (not having my edit reflected onto my contribs page, and that isn't fun. I can't take advantage of the benefits of being logged in to the wiki. So, consider the following:

  • I can't edit pages that are locked so only registered (and logged in!) users can edit them.
  • I can't use a different theme.
  • I can't vote on anything that logged in users can! (such as here)

So.. How can I make this work out? I want to login quite badly... actually, Wikipedia isn't the only wiki that is problematic with login for me. This wiki won't even work for me either... yet some other MediaWiki sites work perfectly. Any help with this? Ξon2see talkcontribsΞ

  • Well, it would appear as though logging in through AOL (they use their proxy) fixes the problem, although this is using IE. Oh well. Ξon2see talkcontribsΞ
Hi, I had the same shitty ISP for years. The solution to your problem is to edit through https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Main_Page instead of regular Wikipedia. Careful when you click on diffs. -- Chris chat edits essays 03:56, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, that eliminates the need to use AOL. But, this connection still has trouble using secure sites, like online banking, or shopping online (and on their commercial they BRAGGED about how great it was (Sheesh D:). Heh. Ξon2see talkcontribsΞ

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Entbloess-screenshot1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Entbloess-screenshot1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
