On-call room

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An on-call room is a room with either a couch or a bunkbed intended for staff to rest in while they are on-call or due to be. On-call rooms are common in hospitals or police stations where staff members frequently work themselves to the point of exhaustion.

[edit] On-call rooms in media

On-call rooms frequently appear on television due to the evocative image of a sleeping doctor/police officer.

  • On the NBC sitcom Scrubs, the doctors often sleep in the on-call room.
  • On the NBC drama Law & Order: SVU, detectives sometimes "crash" in the on-call room while working.
  • On the ABC drama Grey's Anatomy, the doctors often sleep or have sex in the on-call rooms.
