Article X, Option 1

In order to decide whether document X would be beneficial to the United States of America one must first define the reasoning behind Document X. Document X is a section of the Treaty of Versailles that asked the United States’ participation and acknowledgement towards the League of Nations. The League of Nations was an international organization that had a mission to govern the world and to prevent another great war. However, the United States questioned and debated whether to join the League of Nations or not to. I believe that the United States should have joined the League of Nations.

By joining the League of Nations, the United States would have a great influence over certain decisions that could strongly affect the outcome of the future. The United States could benefit from these decisions and make a positive investment for the future. Being on the League of Nations could give the United States benefits in future wars, give the United States political and social power over the world, and provide the United States countless opportunities that could be discarded by not joining the League of Nations.

There is nothing that can truly show the world the importance of peace. Peace is important because it is the definition of human life. Human rights have been in existence since the dawn of time, and have been infringed countless times. What is the opposite of peace? War. And the United States, along with the rest of the world, has just experienced a World War. What causes war? Uneducated people. Not in the sense of illiterate or unintelligent, but not learning to embrace, and not discriminate. If war is the opposite of peace, then what is the best way to achieve peace? Learning from our mistakes. Like Woodrow Wilson said “The Great War has taught us that our reliance on isolation and unilateral foreign policy is no longer feasible“. This is our mistake, and learning from it is the only true way to ensure that we, as a world, will not make them again. We have learned from The Great War that a League of Nations is needed, and the United States must join it.

We’ve seen benefits through influential and ethical ways, but what about one of the struggling parts of America? This of course, is the economy. According to Wilson ““Economic sanctions will also be a powerful persuasive force to coerce belligerents to abide by the treaty”. Our economic force will help us, along with the treaty, with our trading. The American economy is one that is strong, but however, is not sturdy. Limits on the US economy, with the unstabilized growth of the economy, are making the economy head for disaster. In order to ensure the safety of our economy, we must join the League of Nations.

The League of Nations provides the United States many benefits. These benefits, whether with power, economical, or ethical will all invest in the eventual successful growth of the United States. Document X must be passed through the senators to ensure the safety, the growth, and the positive future not just for the United States; but for the world.
