Omega Carinae (ω Car / ω Carinae) is a star in the constellation Carina. With a declination greater than 70 degrees south of the celestial equator, it is the most southerly of the bright stars of Carina (third-magnitude or brighter), and it is part of a popular southern asterism known as the Diamond Cross. This star also has the proper name Simiram, meaning "The Sunlit Sea" or "The Sun Shining on the Sea" in Chuukese.
ω Carinae is a blue-white B-type giant with an apparent magnitude of +3.29. It is approximately 370 light years from Earth.
