Omar Ayub Khan (born January 26, 1970) is former Minister of State for Finance in Pakistan. He was elected as a Member of the National Assembly from constituency NA-19 Haripur as a candidate of PML (Q)[1].

Omar Ayub received his early education from Army Burn Hall College and high schooling from Aitchison College. He received his Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration from George Washington University, making him one of the few political figures in Pakistan with an educational background relevant to their field of work[citation needed].

Omar Ayub along with Shaukat Aziz (who simultaneously holds position of the Minister of Finance and Prime Minister) have been able to bring about a turn around in the economic situation of the country. The Real GDP growth has been recorded at a healthy 6.2% for the fiscal year 2005-06. This has been a significant achievement for a country that was on verge of bankruptcy[citation needed] in 1998 following sanctions imposed in the aftermath of nuclear tests.
In 2006 Khan claimed that the Hazara region of the North-West Frontier Province and Haripur in particular was being neglected by the provincial government which is controlled by the MMA - political rivals of Khan's party, Khan stated "MMA’s government is punishing the people of Hazara for voting in favour of Pakistan Muslim League in the last election,”[2] Omar's main political opponents are ruling family of Gakhars of the region. Raja Aamir Zaman S/O former Chief Minister NWFP Raja Sikander Zaman defeated Omar in 2002 District Nazim elections and bagged more votes than him in 2008 elections.
Omar Ayub Khan has also been named to the World Economic Forum's 2007 list of Young Global Leaders[citation needed]. He is one of 250 leaders recognized for their professional accomplishments, their commitment to society and their potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world, and was selected from a pool of over 4000 candidates worldwide.[citation needed]

Omar Ayub Khan’s father , Gohar Ayub Khan, is the former Foreign Minister of Pakistan and his grandfather, Field Marshal Muhammed Ayub Khan, was the president of Pakistan from 1958-1969.
