Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) is the first telecommunications company in Oman and its primary provider of internet services. Omantel is the leading telecommunications company in Oman. It is also one of the few Internet Service Provider in Oman, The government of Oman stil owns 70% of Omantel.

Omantel PowerNet is the only Internet service in Oman that provides ADSL connections. Omantel provides the fastest internet speed in the Middle east ranging from 512kbps - 16mbps. It is reputed to treat its customers poorly. At one point it blocked the popular VoIP website Skype.This website is still blocked. Omantel Has also Blocked the Popular Playstaion 3 game Resistance:Fall Of Man Update, other sites that Omantel blocked without any reasons are: Stickpage, Uncyclopedia and Newgrounds. . Moreover, Omantel has also recently started blocking online forums and , PPP software, and torrent sites. Recently OmanTel acquired 65% share in World Call Pakistan in April 2008.

Omantel has other services such as IBHAR. It is a broadband wireless service provided by Omantel enabling you to access the internet wirelessly at various public places such as cafes, restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, airports etc, using a WiFi enabled laptop, PDA or mobile device.

Oman Mobile is a subsidiary of Omantel that is an industry in mobile phones with 80% of total mobile communications subscribers in Oman (the other 20% subscribe to Nawras, the second Mobile Telecommunication company in Oman). Now the number of users of Oman Mobile is 1,000,000 subscribers which is about 50% of the Omani population. Oman Mobile also sells off mobile numbers to 3rd parties for advertising purposes.
