Burke High School is a secondary school located in Omaha, Nebraska. It is the most recently built high school in the Omaha Public Schools system. As of 2008 the acting principle is Dr. Connie Eichhorn.[1] The school's mascot is the Bulldogs.
Each year in May, the Nebraska State Track Meet is held at the school, with thousands of people present to watch and to compete.

[edit] Academic Decathlon
One of the most respected groups in the school is its Academic Decathlon team. The school has participated in the Academic Decathlon competition for 12 years, and has been the state champion 7 times. Their arch rival is Creighton Preparatory School. Burke also holds the records for the highest Super Quiz score by a Nebraska team (52/60), set in 2007, and the highest overall team score by a Nebraska team (48,337), set in 2008.[2]

Marching Band
The Burke High School Marching Band is one of the the most involved parts of the band program at Burke, practicing and performing from July through October every year, including Mini-Band Camp, Band Camp, after school practices, and competitions and parades almost every Saturday in October. Burke competed at the very first NSBA State Marching Competition in 1983 and has competed there every year except 1984 and 1997. In all, Burke has received 6 "Division I: Superior" and 17 "Division II: Excellent" awards in 23 years of competition at State. The Omaha Burke Marching Band is the only OPS school to receive a "Division I: Superior" rating at the NSBA State Marching Competition in the competition's 25 year history.[citation needed]
Jazz Band
The Burke Jazz Band is a very strong part of the music program at Burke. Jazz Band is a select group, as and audition is required to be admitted. It is one of the top Jazz Bands in the Omaha Area, often placing near 4th place at the Bellevue East Jazz Festival. They received first place at the Millard South Jazz Festival in 2008.[citation needed]
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is the top concert band at Burke, which also requires an audition to be in. This is the core of the Burke instrumental program. The Symphonic Band often receives superior ratings at competitions. At the 2008 District Music Contest, the Symphonic Band received a 1+ rating, indicating that all three judges gave the band a superior rating.[citation needed]
Vocal
Burke High School is a school known for its powerful vocal music program. Many vocal groups from Burke received a superior rating at the 2008 District Music Contest. Show choir and Madrigal Choir both earned a 1+ while Concert Choir got a 1. Another strong vocal tradition at Burke is the annual musical, which shows at the end of February and beginning of March each year. The musicals at Burke are very successful and known to be the best in town, often selling out the 1000 seat Auditorium at Burke.[citation needed]
