OMAS is an Italian manufacturer of fine writing instruments, fountain pens, ink and luxury goods, founded in 1925. Their products are still manufactured in their factory in Bologna Italy.
OMAS stands for Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni. Founded by Armando Simoni, his passion for Greek culture, and used his extensive knowledge of the art of the ancient world has influenced the style and look of OMAS pens which are known for classic styling of good design. Simoni was not only an artist, but a skilful engineer and a true pen enthusiast. From its humble origins OMAS quickly grew to international fame. Armando Simoni applied all his creativity, technical precision and inspirational genius to designing the tools and equipment necessary to knurl and facet pen bodies, and to cut and grind nibs.
Simoni's creativity led to the creation of pens that were unique in their day, and are still valid writing implements actively sought after by dedicated collectors.
The "Doctor's pen" with its tiny built-in clinical thermometer, the twelve faceted Arte Italiana range, the fountain pen with two alternative, selectable nibs, and a range of fountain pens with transparent barrels to enhance their natural shining beauty are just some of the most spectacular and successful examples of the founder's creativity.
In 2000 the French company, LVMH acquired OMAS. It was the only writing instrument company in its suite of companies. In October 2007 the Xinyu Hengdeli Group of Hong Kong purchased 90% equity stake in OMAS. Xinyu has a strategic partnership with LVMH and plans to use OMAS for its expansion ofluxury goods in the Asia market.
