Talk:Olympus E-3

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Th earticle says that the E3 has the ability to make high dynamic range photos in camera. This does not seem accurate. I was unable to find any information to that effect. I think the info is a misinterpretation of the fact that the sensor in the E3 has a wider dynamic range than previous Olympus cameras. This is very different from being able to take three shots at different exposures and merging them to create a HDR photography, which is what most people would understand from what is written in the Wiki article. Can someone back this up?

Hi, the E3 is able to capture a scene with a wide dynamic range using a technology they call Shadow Adjustment Technology. Some info on the web shows that the sensor has more dynamic range than the E-510. However, it appears that the E-3 captures a wider dynamic range through some image processing technique rather than just an improvement in sensor technology. This technique is also used by Olympus in their PnS cameras. kchanyr 02:48, 25 December 2007 (UTC) Some photos on flickr
The part on the high dynamic range needs rewriting. The dynamic range, as tested, is good, but not superior to other cameras. The shadow adjustment technology simply pushes up the values of shadow areas, and is thus a post-processing technique, but it does not increase dynamic range, which is the ability of the sensor to capture a wide range of light intensity. I would almost feel like contributing more to this page (I have an E-3, and some experience in photography), but I read elsewhere that these pages may be slated for deletion due to notability; is this true? As far as I know there are no plans to delete this page, or other Olympus E-series pages. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 pages were both nominated for deletion, but the result of the deletion process was that they are worth keeping.
It would be great if you could contribute better information to this article. --RenniePet (talk) 21:41, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
