[edit] User:Olliminatore/sign.js

Automatic signing on talk-pages, I'm new and need feedback and suggestion and comments :-). (testing) --Olliminatore 11:25, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't work for me. Copied and pasted into my User:Marudubshinki/cologneblue.js, and... nada. --maru (talk) contribs 18:45, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello, I will look on that problem, another miss is the (wrong) confirm-message and an (unwanted achievable) signing force, perhaps we (Ilmari Karonen) will fix that morning. (sign.js *testing) --Olliminatore 21:24, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
The problem is User:Cacycle/editor.js, which gets included after your own cologneblue.js and replaces the onclick handler with its own. The solution is either to change Cacycle's script to use the same "oldOnclick" trick as this script uses, or include this script externally after Cacycle's script. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 10:23, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Ah, that could explain it: I'm using Cacycle's editor. --maru (talk) contribs 17:37, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
I suggest to import the (/all your) script(s) like in my User:Olliminatore/monobook.js. So you can test the newest version, perhaps the line with "oldOnclick" can be delete (manage without)!?

[edit] Instruction

  • It works only on talk-pages
  • It works only when there are no Minor-edits
  • arranged: It works only if no at least three ~~~ are found (it searched the complete text; not lawfully in <nowiki> but that seems to be necessary; perhaps we could ignore any before, or match only, the diff being saved.)
  • It worked (sure) if you made the bottommost edit on the page
  • Newest feature; it can recognize edits with text inserted between other text, if you put the cursor(-caret) on the end(-postion) of your edit
  • Finally, it prompts one if it cannot find any signature in the new text, but only once! (cf.: User:Ilmari Karonen/signcheck.js)

You can correct me --Olliminatore 22:50, 24 April 2006 (UTC) I did. --maru (talk) contribs 23:42, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Try the *NEW* version 1.3 (some fixed), it is more dependable and it should not come in conflict with other functions on the onclick-handler. So report any flaw. --Olliminatore 19:02, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, I've installed it. Let's see.
Sry I'm even testing, can we do it here Wikipedia_talk:Sandbox? *cache emptied (*aut. sign)-->true<--failed!

The return confirm is incorrect, the fix comes shortly --Olliminatore 19:18, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User page bug

You know that odd PathosChild template links to a page on PathosChild, not you, right? --maru (talk) contribs 18:46, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Uhm* Thx, I found this userpage template by Wikipedia:Signature_Poll/General_Eisenhower#User:General_Eisenhower, i thought it's an general template. So better ;)? -- Olliminatore 00:14, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Hmm. I think we're talking at cross purposes. When I go to your user page, at the very top (in my Blue Cologne skin), I see "Olliminatore's user page (see userspace map)", and clicking on it takes me to http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Pathoschild... which is obviously not right. --maru (talk) contribs 03:07, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Zocky/Search Box

I haven't been able to reproduce your replace all bug, but I have fixed a bug that prevented replace from working properly with some regexps, and I've also added a toggle case button, because I often need it :) Zocky | picture popups 01:15, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I nearly forgot the main thing. The number of replaced occurences now appears in the status bar. You may need to move the mouse away from the replace all link to see it. Zocky | picture popups 01:18, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[replace all] works now, the [toggle case] is also very nice. But i don't see the countings in the status bar!? :-( Why you has an onmouseover. focus()? (That's not insecure?) What do you think about an alert(box or in status bar) if no replacing/ match is found?! *more using...* -- Olliminatore 00:32, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Did you ever...

Get the parser for GML to work for IE? I give up...I don't even know why I bothered to try, IE is just so much more rigid/error-prone/non-standard and limited that simple things have a tendancy to not work. All IE can do is get the raw xml, but there is no way to parse it. That activeX garbage I see on websites does not work.Voice-of-AllTalk 03:56, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately no. I actually also do know nobody, that can do this with IE. I've don't more trying (XMLParse and IE7 don't tested too), I've heard that IE can't handle Ajax through a firewall. regards --Olliminatore 09:47, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Heh...I cant even install IE7 :). VoA/monobooks does have IE rollback, though it has to workaround xmlparse all together :(.Voice-of-AllTalk 23:18, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
*uhm* workaround, how this? I made a fix for IE with XMLParse ;). Can you plz test it (in en:)?! @IE7 I don't install him too still. I think the next fix needed is for usernames with UTF-8 sign :-p. --Olliminatore 00:14, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Wait weird names won't revert, all the more reason to keep my IE script fork (it changes the links depending on the browser so that the IE version triggers, this version is a tad slower, sometimes, but it is good for wierd names, like ee&fckY.Voice-of-AllTalk 23:27, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] monobook.js

The reason I changed my script is because the one I was using before (I don't remember which one it was, Perhaps your's?) just stopped working on me, so I went back to a diferent one (Admin-like RC Patrol tools {{subst:User:Voice of All/RC/monobook.js}}) I once tried and that one is working pretty good. It has This: [rollback page] || [revert (vandal)] at the most recent edit and this: [restore this revision] by all other versions. It also works good with Lupins "Recent IP edit tool". I dont know why the old one stopped working. Did you contact me because you noticed that I changed my monobook script, or you just wanted my to test your script? Regards --Shlomke 06:21, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Olliminatore, since 100+ users use my VoA script, would you mind updating it with what you have? Right now it uses two different rollback methods depending on which browser the person is using. For now, could you change the revert functions so that they have all of your updates (a big copy paste won't do since they work differently), other than the changes to the "add revert buttons to page" functions. If you don't want to, then I'll get on it in a few days.Voice-of-AllTalk 23:28, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
If you test (support) my /sign.js script I'll do it ;). I see some functions in your script are double?! greetings --Olliminatore 17:24, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Vandal and regular script should eventually be unified, since only the summary, and the window.open aspects are different.Voice-of-All 22:32, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
OK, I just unified them here[1], I'll do the same for VoA soon.Voice-of-All 23:17, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unsigned comments script update

The script has changed. Check my user page for an update. Invitatious 23:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

I just released version 1.1 1.2 02:46, 10 June 2006 (UTC) (on user page). It has a choice between the 16 most recent edits. To use it, the procedure is the same as before, except there is an additional dialog showing the edits. Click OK on that, and type the hexadecimal digit [0-F]. If you use Mozilla or Firefox, you can comment out the IE lines and uncomment the Mozilla line. That will allow easier editing, by the two additional dialogs added being combined into one. I tested it, it works in IE 6 on Windows XP. Tell me if you still have problems. Invitatious 21:31, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
I have incorporated most of your changes, including the IE workaround. I have chosen my own variable names though, and added my own features such as a background-color change to indicate the workaround and asynchronous loading. There is one problem in your version though. Only the minor edits will end up showing. I recommend you use my most recent version of the script (in User:Invitatious/scripts#Localization). All that needs to be changed is the one template line. Also, before you click on the tab, click after the comment. The insertTag function, normally used for inserting wiki markup, is used. And, how did I know about query.php? I saw it on meta:Machine-friendly wiki interface. Although I discovered this after making this script, Lupin's navigation popups (which I find very helpful but annoying at times) also use it. Invitatious 23:34, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
This script triggers too much. It should allow for some length change in the page before giving the "no sig" notice. Otherwise, spelling corrections are more annoying to make.Voice-of-All 02:16, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry and thanks, I'm inaktiv for a while. Yes, I made this faults, but I see one fault by you too, You have a "else" too much (after "my" workaround). bye --Olliminatore 19:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your fixes

Thank you for taking care of godmode-light.js. Since I am an admin on most wikis I use, I lack both the time and motivation to maintain it. I understand it is now somewhat of a collective maintenance, where should I redirect users? Sam Hocevar 11:06, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad to pleasing your. Unfortunately I'm also not very active more. But I'll support your Script (in this way) in honor and helpfully further. --Olliminatore 19:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] XEB

Thanks for the input into extra edit buttons. I have copied the code from /customToolbar.js into User:MarkS/Extra_edit_buttons/dev2.js for me to test over the next few days. The new code is much better and definitely something to work from.

Originally XEB inserted raw HTML on to the end of the toolbar. However, a change to the wikimedia software a few months ago broke that go and mwCustomEditButtons[mwCustomEditButtons.length] was the old thing I could get to work at the time (given by limited Javascript). I'll stick with your Push method instead.

The use of XEBOrder was introduced to solve the problem of users wanted the buttons in different orders and only some of the buttons. I set it up to use "A,B,C, ...." as a test. My intention was to expand this so the user could enter either "C" or "Comment" (for example) into XEBOrder. This would keep the shortcodes working and allow longer more friendly descriptions as well. This could mean XEBOrder might be XEBOrder="Comment,Ref,Heading2". I can't see an easy way to adapt your code to give alternative names for each button.

In addition when I first tested your version it crashed because I was requesting a button that didn't exist (my fault not yours) but is there a way to get your version to just ignore buttons that don't exist?

I'll watch your talk page so please feel free to respond here (it allows the conversation easier to follow). --MarkS (talk) 20:16, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Greeting MarkS!
Nice to hear from you. Sorry, the last 3 days I was not here and (in de: a bit too). In this temporally version there was a failure too (one button lost, but not in XEBOrder). I give you an additional function to make your documenation/ conversion easier (/faster). Perhaps we could make a multilanguage (international) XEB version!?
/** docu helper **/
addOnloadHook(function (){
 document.editform.elements['wpTextbox1'].value+=
 '{|\n' class="wikitable"\n
 +'!|Pic||Name||Standard||Code||Description \n'
 var ic=0, bc, ib;
 for (var b in BDict){
 bc = BDict[b];
 ib="";
 if (XEBOrder[ic]==b) ib="*" ;
 else ic--;
 ic++;
 document.editform.elements['wpTextbox1'].value+='|-\n'
 +'|[[Image:'+bc[0].split('\/').pop() +']]\n'
 +'|' + bc[1] + '\n'
 +'|'+ ib +'\n'
 +'|' +b + '\n| \n'
 }
 document.editform.elements['wpTextbox1'].value+='|}'
})
I used an other function to convert the buttons from your format to my , if you need it anyway, tell it. My next step (todo) for the buttons is an expanded functionality with more as text inclusion/ insertion. I'll see what your suggestion for the button naming. --Olliminatore
Okay, so I could do a converted version on dev2!? --Olliminatore 12:58, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
I would be glad, if we would co-operate more. To your last request: I'm not sure to do intercept the failure (maybe if you could give me more reasons, failure is failure). To the dev-version: It would be good/ better if I could edit this version too (the script works without ".js" ending too)?! Actually there are some german words in it (which I had already translated). In my actually German version I've added more buttons too. It would be nice for wikipeida if you would be more active :) It seems now necessary that the dev-version becomes the true version. --Olliminatore 06:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Sorry been busy with work and family. Always have to stop and think for a while before getting into XEB. I need to have a clear hour to think and work on XEB. So where do we go from here:
  1. I like the idea of having a multilingual version of XEB, but the way the dev2 version is configured at the moment makes that quite difficult because the words that get inserted and spread through the code. If we could separate the text that gets inserted into a something separate then we could sit the English text alongisde German text and other languages. My Javascript isn't up to this. We would need to agree all the buttons that went in (so everything that people have requested gets included) and the images that get used (we can use the same images for all the languages).
  2. The reason I wasn't keen on it crashing if the user specified a button that didn't exist was because I expect that people with little Javascript knowledge would use XEB. All they would need to go is include the main code and then define XEBOrder. I think it would be easier for them if the code rang whatever they put in XEBOrder. If they get it wrong then the button they asked for just isn't displayed rather than the javascript crashing. It is possible that the first time they set XEBOrder up they might get several button names wrong and if it crashes they might find it difficult to work out where they went wrong.
  3. At the moment I was intending to add amend the code you supplied (currently in dev2.js) to include all the buttons that were in the dev.js version. Once this was done I would release that version and amend the documentation. Are you happy for me to do this as soon as possible? If this would give a version to work from I am happy to do it. If you think that it will need to be overwritten with something different then let me know. --MarkS (talk) 19:39, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Update:
  • I have been through the dev2 version of the code (which was your code) and checked that all the original XEB buttons are present. This creates a single set of buttons to work forward from.
  • I have moved the code in dev2 into the dev version. I have requested the dev2 version is deleted. This creates a single development version to move forward with.
  • I have added a list of things to the dev talk page that I think need doing to this dev version before it can be released. This is so we have a single list of what needs doing going forward. It will certainly help me understand what I need to do. Please feel free to amend the list as required. --MarkS (talk) 19:56, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I have released a new version of XEB. This incorporates your code. Points to note:

  • I have kept the codes the same as the German version. This provides some consistency between the different environments
  • I have added a couple of buttons which are on the German version but were not on the English version.
  • I can't add the voting buttons which exist on the German version. This is because discussions on English Wikipedia are very much against voting and the relevant templates keep getting deleted. I could just get the button to enter the correct markup rather than a template but this would be against the spirit of what is going on elsehere, so I'm not going to do this.
  • I have added an extra option under XEBOrder. You can now set this to 'all' to see all the buttons. Initially I added this for testing purposes.
  • I have change the default order of the buttons about a bit. This is to get all the similar buttons together (for example the alignment buttons are now grouped together). I haven't change the code for each button though.
  • All the images are now in commons (this was already the case for the German version).

I think going forward it might be useful to keep the code as close as possible. So it would be useful if we let each other know of any code changes (this is more likely to be something you will need to do than me, given by lower knowledge of javascript). It would also be useful if we kept an eye on each other versions to ensure that the codes for buttons remain the same. --MarkS (talk) 21:22, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry MarkS, I was a while off with XEB. Thanks for your detailed doing protocol. I think I agree with all your suggestions (I'll receive your ideas). I think it would be easier for them if the code rang whatever they put in XEBOrder. Okay I'll write the code. @keep the code as close as possible: Yes, unfortunately "XEBorder" was changed to "customEditButtons" (which was not my blame alone :(, but in de: to many people already have it included) I'll keep the code same as possibly now. --Olliminatore 21:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VoABot

I'd like to give 1-2 other trusted, knowledgable users the source code and info to run my two bots. Would you be interested? Thanks.Voice-of-All 20:39, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, yes (if I really suitable) I'll try it, but I'm new to bots (specially your bots too) but not python. What is your exact intention to do that? --Olliminatore 20:51, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, the bot's simply run off javascript (mostly off the hard drive) in the Opera Browser. I hear that python can have parsing issues sometimes, but it is otherwise pretty stable. I would have wrote/converted VoABot II to Python, but I don't know how to program or install the python bot framework. I am more interested in PHP at the moment, so it would be a while before I knew any python (and I'd need help installing the bot framework first).Voice-of-All 21:30, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't think, I'll have (yet) in further enough time for this (to workin for help). It seems limited. But maybe later I would do introduce me for that. --Olliminatore 06:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] wikEd

The wikEdlogo

Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Often it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

Cacycle 21:57, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

That hint is great, the new editor is impressive! Many thanks! Maybe I could made a german conversion? That makes a extended custom toolbar fully dispensable (not say useless). I carry this hint to the german wikipedia. regards --Olliminatore 10:37, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I will add multi-language support soon, please check the wikEd homepage from time to time. Cacycle 14:19, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Ollimatore, I have now added multi-language support to wikEd. It would be really cool if you could make a translation. Check out the translations guide. Cacycle 23:45, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Cacycle, the point is, the editor isn't working correct. The 2 search input field overlies some buttons. A 2. textbox appears (i see as iframe) I think that should not be so (the highlighting is not working too) :-{.

[edit] Extra Edit Buttons

I have checked the new version and moved the code to live. You might want to take a look at eraseButtons which I had to amend a little bit to cope with the extra 11 buttons that English Wikipedia has on the standard toolbar. I also added a check to stop IE producing an error when you view a page (I suspect the error was showing because I had IE's settings set to show all errors). I have also added sorting to the rmEraseButtons array so it works whatever order the user specifies the button codes in. I will be updating the documentation in the next few days.

I would particularly like to thank you for all your help on this without which I wouldn't have been able to update the code to include the extra featues. In honour of this I award you this barnstar:

[edit] godmode-light.js

Sorry for yet another layman's annoyance: Try as I might, I can't get your User:Olliminatore/godmode-light.js to work for me. I copy/pasted it into my godmode-light.js, but nothing changed. I then tried copy/pasting your monobook.js into mine and now I have popups and that's fine, but I'd really like those buttons in article history with godmode-light... it does work for non-admins, doesn't it? Could you tell where I made a mistake or why it isn't working? I logged off/on, purged my browser's cache and everything, but still, nothing. Wäre super, wenn du mir da weiterhelfen könntest. LG, Kncyu38 11:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

This feature is not supported (yet). You can only revert the version(s) from the last user in the history. P.S: Dein Deutsch ist super :). --Olliminatore 02:00, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Extra Edit Buttons

Hi, I promised to keep you up to date on this. I've been working on a new version of XEB for the past couple of months. This new version features popups. These are floats (like Lupin's popups) rather than the separate window which you use to generate table markup on the German version of XEB. At the moment I've created these popups for creating tables, geo location, images and references. I've created a test version of the code and put instructions at the top of the XEB home page on how to use the test version. I'd appreciate it if you could have a look over the next week or so (I'll be on a Wikibreak so won't be able to respond immediately to any commnets).

On a related note I've been looking at WikEd in the past few days. This has some of the same features as XEB and I might consider approaching cacycle to suggest merging the two together (which probably means the cross browser functionality and popups of XEB being added to WikEd). Given that you support the German XEB I'd appreciate your comments on this. --MarkS (talk) 20:16, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Extra edit buttons has received a significant update today. The most significant change is the introduction of popups for some of these buttons. These are small dialog forms which float over the web page. They allow the user to specify the details of the markup code they want added to the page. For example the popup for the table button allows the user to specify things such as the number of the rows and columns in a table and whether or not there should be a header row. As well as the popups there are some extra buttons and other changes to the way the code works. The documentation for XEB will be updated over the next few days.

If you have any problems with the new version, or suggestions for XEB then please contact me via my talk page. -- MarkS (talk) 10:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Warning:Javascript security issue

Hi! I need to inform you that I've protected Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Add tab because it allows users to add code to the javascript of other users. If you are an admin, you are still able to edit it, but if you are not an admin, please copy and paste it into your userspace to continue modifying it. We can set up a message at the old javascript page telling users to change their links. If you need help, please contact me or User:Eagle_101. Thanks, --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs 00:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your sign.js

Hi! Good afternoon! I just popped in to ask you why your sign.js tool only signs on user talk pages and not other pages that require signing like for an example on WP:NCHD it doesn't auto sign. If you could respond on my talk page that would be appreciated. Thank you! Have a great day! --GalaxyGuy (talk) 17:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Extra buttons

Hi! I was wondering, do you know how to add the extra buttons (horizontal line, redirect, strke, line breaker...etc...reference) to a particular wiki? (in this case [2])

Is there a Media Wiki estension?? the MarkS method doesnt make much sense o me. I'd like the extra buttons to be available for all my users (when I finelly get them he,he) since the begining not having to crate some subarticle user pages each to then copy some codetext and then do procedures they won't be able to commplete or comprehend.

I'd also like to add this box to my site:

Insert: – — … ° ≈ ≠ ≤ ≥ ± − × ÷ ← → · §  Sign your username: ~~~~
