[edit] License tagging for Image:Pohribets.jpeg
Thanks for uploading Image:Pohribets.jpeg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Adding both boards to your watchlist is probably a good idea.
Finally, in case you are interested, similar boards exist at Russia portal as many editors contribute to topics related to both countries. The respective boards there are: Portal:Russia/New article announcements and Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board. Of course there are also many other portals at Wikipedia or you may just get right into editing.
Again, welcome!

About the name of the Capital of Ukraine, please read the article's talk and archives as well as WP:NC(UE). Thanks, -Irpen 03:52, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
PS: You read it! Kyiv is Ukrainian version. Kiev is Russian. Why we Ukrainian should follow Russian spelling? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oleg Kikta (talk • contribs)
No, Kiev is English and that it coinsides with Russian is a separate issue. Modern Major English language media and English Encyclopedias use Kiev. If and when this chanes, we will change the usage in Wikipedia. As of now, the policy states:
- If you are talking about a person, country, town, movie or book, use the most commonly used English version of the name for the article, as you would find it in other encyclopedias and reference works. This makes it easy to find, and easy to compare information with other sources
--Irpen 03:59, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- The usage of other encyclopedias and major English media has been analyzed at the article's talk and archives. Please read it. Now, if you are really interested in improving the article about the city, please add more information about its history, geography, economy, transportation, etc. The article could clearly use help from more editors. I hope your goal here is expanding articles rather than change names left and right. --Irpen 04:14, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi Oleg Kikta, I wanted to let you know that I recently reverted the changes you made to Kyiv. Irpen is correct about the wp policies which direct editors to use the most commonly used English version of the name. In this case, the most commonly used form of Київ in English is Kiev. Simply changing Kiev to Kyiv is not going to accomplish anything. As long as Kiev remains common among English speakers, Kyiv will usually be reverted at en.wikipedia.
Please do not take this personally; this is not about which version is better. I, as well, invite your constructive contributions to Ukraine related articles. You may be interested in this. Feel free to drop by and leave a message at my talk page if I can be of any help.--Riurik (discuss) 04:54, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
PS:
Kyiv and Kiev reflect the divergence of the Ukrainian and Russian languages from the single Old East Slavic form *Kijevъ (spelled Києвъ or Кієвъ). According to the legendary account in the Primary Chronicle, the city is named after Kyi (Кий), who is said to have founded the city with his brothers Shchek and Khoryv, and their sister Lybid'.
On October 3, 2006, the United States Federal Government changed its official spelling of the city name to Kyiv. [1]
Some proponents of the spelling Kyiv take exception with the use of Kiev as reflecting imposed Russification in Ukraine, and consider it inappropriate since the country's independence in 1991.
[edit] Article titles
I am totally neutral as to how L.U.'s article's title should be spelled. But to change the title, the article needs to me moved rather than pasted. Please raise the issue at the talk page of the current article. I don't believe many people would feel passionate about the name either way. --Irpen 04:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Content writing
Any chance to engage you into writing content rather the name fights? --Irpen 00:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Second Irpen's request, care to explain why you removed a language where it is official and added one to places where its not --Kuban Cossack 20:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Kuban Cossack, Russian is not official language in Ukraine, niether in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk etc. I want to tell you the same, why are you adding Russian language to Ukraine-related Wikipedia and deliting Ukrainian language from Russia-related wekipedia (Kuban)? Do you hate Ukrainian language? Of course!!! But I don't care if you do or no. Just want to ask you a favor, don't tauch Ukraine-related wikipedia. Don't write in Russian there. You are welcome to write in Russian on Russia-related wikipedia.
- Oleh, the applicability of the Russian name is based not on something being part of Russia but by a number of complex reasons outlined in naming conventions. Similarrly, there is a Ukrainian name in Przemyśl despite Peremyshl is not Ukraine. Would you like to help adding content to Wikipedia? --Irpen 18:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Please remember 3RR on Kharkiv
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Kharkiv. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. --Kralizec! (talk) 00:54, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Одеська область
Hi, Олег. I noticed your poll at talk:Odessa Oblast. I'm afraid that transliterating official names is not the only determiner of Wikipedia article titles. Read over some of the guidelines, so that you are prepared to respond to the various arguments which come up: WP:NAME, WP:PLACES, and WP:NCGN. Note that Odessa region is very common in English-language literature, and the Ukrainian government appears to use Odesa region most often across gov.ua, but also Odessa oblast, &c.
Moving this particular article might be warranted, but I suggest you don't put too much energy into renaming. Most current article names are the result of an equilibrium established in previous polls, and frankly, the fight has been won—apart from a few names very well established in English, Wikipedia's article naming is balanced towards Ukrainian names. Making written additions to articles which need them will do much more to advance a fair picture of Ukrainian issues than protracted naming discussions. —Michael Z. 2008-05-09 22:47 z

- This is not to say that this balance does not need to be upheld. In some cases, there are others who push the other way, and here your enthusiasm is more than welcome, but I have to agree with Michael's note on this. Oleh, consider writing an article on something that interests you. How about Kharkiv City Council? Here is the official site, and this is a press-release announcing how Kharkiv won a competition on openness. If you decide to create this wikipedia entry, don't forget to announce it at the Portal:Ukraine. Regards, --Riurik(discuss) 17:30, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Revert warring
Honestly when is this going to stop? Have a read of WP:POINT, because you are not going to earn any sympathy from anyone by continuing to WP:TROLL on articles like you did on Luhansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv What is your problem? Russian language there has de facto regional status, who cares if this violates a constitution(s), Wikipedia is not written by constitutions of countries, it represents facts as they are not as you or me would like them to be. Why not actually help the project by expanding on some of those articles.
Although all wikipedians are by default equal, experience shows that those who make a lot of contributions tend to have a lot more influence on changing policies, than those single purpose accounts which all they seem to care about is what language in the lead, and force it by reverting rather than discussing. Regards. --Kuban Cossack 19:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] May 2008
Please stop. If you continue to blank out or delete portions of page content, templates or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did to Donetsk, you will be blocked from editing.
Revert warring will not get us anywhere and is only considered disruptive. There are valid reasons to keep the respective Russian names on Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv pages, just as there are valid reasons to have the Polish name Lwów on the Lviv article (where Polish isn't even official). This is compliant with the Manual of Style section on article titles. —dima/talk/ 00:47, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
