Oleksandr Usyk (Усик, Александр) is a Ukrainian amateur boxer best known to win Bronze at the 2006 European Amateur Boxing Championships. He now competes at heavyweight where he has qualified for the Olympics 2008.
[edit] Career
At the Euros 2006 he won his first three matches against little-known opponents, in the semifinal he was outclassed by Russian superstar Matvey Korobov.
He moved up to light-heavyweight later but stood in the shadows of world class Ismail Sillakh even though he won the Strandya Cup in 2008.
In February 2008 he moved up another weightclass and was sent to the Olympic qualifier in Roseto degli Abruzzi replacing noone less than European Champion Denis Poyatsika. There he easily defeated world class Elchin Alizade and Daniel Price.
