Ole Olsen (speedway)

Ole Olsen (born 1946) is a former Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He has won 21 medals in World Championships, including four individual gold medals, of which one in 1973 as World 1000m Longtrack Champion. He won the 1971, 1975, and 1978 Speedway World Championships, in tight competition with Ivan Mauger. He was also World Pairs Champion in 1979. His victories greatly helped popularize the sport in Denmark. Ole rode for newcastle then wolverhampton before joining his final team Coventry where he enjoyed the most success, winning two british league titles as well as the 1981 league cup & numerous midland cup triumphs, Ole also was crowned british league riders champion in 1976/77/78, would have won a couple more world individual titles if he hadn't of fell in one heat in the 1972 world final at wembley whilst holding a comfortable 2nd and also robbed of the title in 1977 when john boulger fell at a rain soaked ullevi in gothenburg, in the re-run Ole lost out to ivan mauger,between Mauger & Olsen, of the 12 world finals between 1968 to 1979, these two won 9 of the titles, truly the Greatest Dane

He is currently a FIM Speedway Grand Prix race director.
