Olds, Wortman & King was a department store established in 1851 as Olds & King in Portland, Oregon, United States. It was one of the oldest companies in the Pacific Northwest.[citation needed] Mr. Wortman joined the firm in the 1860s. The company built their large store at Morrison, Alder, Tenth, and West Park streets in downtown Portland in 1910. It was the first store in the Northwest to occupy an entire block. The company was bought in 1925 by Schlessinger Department stores (Which also owned The City of Paris store in San Francisco, Schlessinger & Sons in Oakland, and Rhodes Brothers in Tacoma), and the name was shortened again to Olds & King. In 1943, the company was purchased by Western Department Stores Inc., which renamed it Rhodes Department Store in the 1950s. The store closed for good in 1974 and it became a multi-level shopping center, The Galleria. The building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Olds, Wortman and King Department Store, is currently home to the Western Culinary Institute.
