Old World Wisconsin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Old World Wisconsin, America's largest outdoor museum of rural life, is located in Wisconsin, 35 miles (56 km) south west of Milwaukee, in the Kettle Moraine State Forest, near the village of Eagle. Farmsteads and settlements represent the following people and what is in those areas;

German:Koepsell Farm, Schottler Farm, Schulz Farm

Finnish:Rankinen Farm, Ketola Farm

Norwegian:Fossebrekke Farm, Kvaale Farm, Rasberry School

Danish:Pedersen Farm

Polish:Kruza House

Yankee:Harmony Town Hall, Four Mile Inn, Sisel Shoe Shop, Benson House, Grotelueschen Blacksmith Shop, Peterson Wagon Shop, Thomas General Store, Mary Hafford House, St. Peter's Church

African-American:Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Chapel, Shepard Family Cemetery, United Brethren Church, Pleasant Ridge Cemetery

The museum encompasses nearly 600 acres (2.4 kmĀ²) of rolling wooded hills. In addition, there is a restaurant on the lower level and conference space on the upper level of the Clausing Barn, an octagonal barn. There is also a gift shop and trams that run to the Scandinavian and German, African American, and Crossroads Village respectively.

What is termed the "Yankee Village" there (see "Yankee" above) also contains "non-Yankee" buildings. Specifically, the Sisel shoe shop (Czech); Grotelueschen Blacksmith Shop (German); and the Peterson Wagon Shop (Scandinavian).
