The Old Providence Church is located off of New Boonesboro Road in Winchester, Clark County, Kentucky. This historic building is fascinating and teaches people about the history of the United States. It is a place that can be admired by people of all ages because of its uniqueness and history.
This church is exceptional because the structure was well established for the eighteenth century. Although the structure is built simplistically, the stone has great depth and remarkable detail. The location of this building has such picturesque scenery that also adds to the distinctiveness of its construction. Its record also greatly contributes to its individuality.
The church’s history is another one of its many great aspects. Daniel Boone was an attendee of this facility. Two of his family members, Samuel Boone and Mary Boone, were baptized here. Once named Howard’s Creek Church it was later renamed Old Providence Church in 1790. William Bush, a member of Boone's second Kentucky expedition, built the present stone structure of native limestone. In 1801, the United Baptists were formed. Soon after this, the building was passed to the Negro Baptists in 1870. It was slightly damaged in a fire and restored in 1949. [2]
The church should be preserved for our future generations to help them learn about the life of Daniel Boone. It shows what the religious life was like back in the eighteenth century. It provides a visual to show the architecture of the time period in which it was built. It gives Winchester a special quality that no other town has.
This place can take you on a trip down memory lane with its unusual architecture and beautiful scenery. You can learn about the history of the church and a slight bit of information about the life of Daniel Boone and those close to him. It really gives an accurate view of what Winchester is based on and all of the town’s history.
