Old Forge, New York

Old Forge is a hamlet on Route 28 in the Town of Webb in Herkimer County, New York. Old Forge was formerly a village that dissolved its incorporation, but it is still the principal community in the region. Old Forge forms an extensive business district, primarily directed at tourism especially during the summer months.
The Enchanted Forest Water Safari is the main attraction in Old Forge. It is also home to one of the oldest operating summer camps in the United States, Adirondack Woodcraft Camps, which is owned and operated by the Leach family. Old Forge is the starting point for the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, as well as the Adirondack Canoe Classic, a three-day, 90-mile canoe race.
Old Forge was also the first place in the United States to utilize a mail boat for the post office to reach houses on the lake. The boat is still run today by Ray Carr and is one of only a few dozen mailboats left in the United States.
Old Forge often records the lowest winter temperatures in New York. On February 17, 1979, the record low temperature for New York was set in Old Forge at -57 degrees Fahrenheit.[1][2]
