Olathe South High School is the second oldest high school in the Olathe Unified School District. Built in 1981, Olathe South stands at the courner of 151st Street and Lennox Road in Olathe. Adjacent to the Olathe South building on the westside of the campus is Indian Trail Junior High. Olathe South currently competes at the KSHSAA level as a 6A school. Although OSHS only has 10th-12th grades. Feeder schools into Olathe South are Frontier Trail Junior High, Indian Trail Junior High School, parts of Oregon Trail Junior High, and Chisholm Trail Junior High School. Olathe South's official colors are blue and gold and its official mascot is the Falcon. Olathe South is nationally recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.

Olathe South competes in 13 sports for men and women. As well as cheerleading, drill team (OS Golden Girls), and color guard. State Championships include:

Olathe South also competes in speech, forensics, and debate tournaments, as well as having an active student council (STUCO), music, and science olympiad.

[edit] Band, Orchestra, and Choir
The marching element of the band is called the Olathe South Falcon Regiment (pictured to the right). The band is lead by Dr. Chad Coughlin. During concert season, OSHS has three band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Winds Band. Each of differing experience levels. OSHS also has a jazz band, and a pep band for basketball games and ROIT Spirit
[edit] Drama and Musicals
In 2004 Olathe South Preforming Arts production of The Pirates of Penzance was nominated for Best Musical, as well as nine other awards, at the 1st Annual Blue Star Awards, fo [2] The Olathe South theater department puts on three plays, including one musical each year. The first musical OSHS produced was Meridith Wilson's The Music Man (which has traditionally been repeated at the 10 and 20 year school anniversaries. And assumed 30th as well.) The first play OSHS preformed was You Can't Take It With You. The current drama teacher is David Tate Hastings, of Lawrence, Kansas. In 2002, Olathe South became the first high school in the United States to perform Footloose. The musical for the 2006-2007 school year was Hello, Dolly which was nominated for several awards at the Blue Star Awards including Best Musical, but won a Blue Star Award for Best Direction of a Musical for 2007's Hello, Dolly.

S.A.S.H. (Students Achieving Social Harmony) is one available activity at Olathe South High School. Students are given semester issues dealing with anything from socioeconomics to religion. This year, the club has thus far decorated Childrens Mercy Kansas City as well as hosting a Toys for Tots fund raiser.

PCA - Olathe South features a special program called Professional Careers Academy, or PCA. The PCA's goals are to teach students leadership skills and ethics and prepare students for life after high school. [3] The PCA also brings in guest speakers in a program called the "PCA Lecture Series". This has brought in such speakers as ethics professor Marianne Jennings and local judge Janice Russell. [4]

CaSE - This stands for Computer and Software Engineering, the second 21st century program to come to Olathe South. This program provides students with the computer programming skills they need for their future endeavors in the computer market.

Eco-Club- Ran by Tim Oberhelman, eco-club is derived from the Student Naturalist class, which has also gained quite a bit of popularity for those concerned about the environment.

The Olathe South Eyrie is the weekly newspaper for the high school. It is named after the nest a falcon makes. The sponsor for the Eyrie is Dr. Gary Glenn.

The Talon is the name of the annual yearbook. OSHS yearbook is actually given out at the start of every year at enrollment. So that activities and athlethics past the spring page deadlines could be included.

Olathe South airs weekly announcements during the lunch time show called Falcon Week hosted by Meredith Fitzsimons and Alyssa Burdett. They just recently began doing daily video announcements which are aired in class each day.

The Student Council is a 4 person elected body: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasure, as well as 3 sets of 4 class officers of the same names. (Freshman are in the Junior High systems until 2011). There is also an elected body representing all three grades called the General Assembly, or GA.

- Jared Bond, drummer from the band, The Josephine Collective signed with the Warner Brother label in 2006.
