Coordinates: 33°26′42″N 84°02′24″W / 33.445, -84.040 Ola High School is a public institution of learning located near McDonough, Georgia. Ola High School has a student body consisting of about 1500 students in grades 9-12. The Ola Middle School is adjacent to the high school. The high school facilities include a football field, track, baseball field, tennis courts, and a gymnasium for basketball.

In response to overcrowding at existing schools and continued growth and development in the rural southeastern area of Henry County, the Henry County Board of Education elected in 2005 to build a middle and a high school near the Ola unincorporated area, near the existing Ola Elementary School. Construction began the same year and was completed in May of 2006, 2 months before the opening date of August 3, 2006. The total project cost for Ola Middle School and Ola High School was $43,585,000 and was completed by the Manhattan Construction Company.

The school's principal is Ross Iddings. The assistant principals are Debra O'Quinn, Rico Pittman, Lisa Gugino, Tommy Thompson and David Shedd.

The school has consistently out performed the state average across the whole curriculum and throughout its grades.[1]. Greatschools has given it an 8/10 rating, with parents through the same site giving it a five star rating[2].

The Student Government Association is responsible for responding to the needs of the student body. The SGA will serve as leaders for a variety of student activities. Officers are elected by grade level and representatives by homeroom. OHSGA holds membership in the National Association of Student Councils and the Georgia Association of Student Councils. The SGA Advisor is Trish Kaminski. The 2008-09 President is S. Patel.

Members of the Lady Mustangs Volleyball team won 2nd Place in Area in 2006. The coach is Lonnie Wheeler.[4]

[edit] National Honor Society

The sponsor for the National Honor Society is Lesley Carnes. Purposes of the NHS as taken from the NHS Constitution are to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, and finally to promote leadership and develop character. Some activities include campus cleanups, local community service, tree plantings, etc.[5]

[edit] Outdoors Club

Vicki Loess and Katrina Pandya sponsor the Outdoors Club. Through hiking, white water rafting, indoor rock climbing, bicycling, caving, and a summer trip to Costa Rica, they plan to achieve a healthy respect and understanding for their natural environment. Also, they want to learn about all aspects of the outdoors and nature. In addition, they will be responsible for starting and maintaining a recycling program for Ola High School as part of the required volunteer work.[6]

Members of the Partners Club help with Special Olympic events. They do a therapeutic horse back riding program and play with Special Olympics Athletes on teams. Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Banks are the sponsors to contact for any information.[7]

SkillsUSA is led by Coach Holcomb. The group makes trips to various conventions in and out of the state.
