welcome! some administrator is going to say that officially.you're gonna love this.it's about the most fun you can have with your clothes on.i know you're busy, but try to do some stuff outside the medical articles.o.k. on to business. i've been thinking, actually, about deleting bart's haemoglobin, because it isn't eponymous,as i understand the word. it's named after a hospital, not a person.i've already removed several entities that were named for places. small point, i suppose, but you'll find this place is full of pedants. when you stop and think about what's actually going on here, pedants have their uses.anyway, let me know what you think about bart's.Toyokuni3 (talk) 06:57, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Your note is a little cryptic, and I'm not sute what the administrators say I'm going to love or what the pendants you're talking about are in reality. Forgive me if I don't respond to what you were talking about.

Concerning Hemoglobin Bart's...it is indeed eponymous. An eponym can be named after a person, place, or thing. The official definition I found was "Giving one's name to something, as to a city, country, era, institution. [Greek, epi to + onoma, name]". I need a citation for this of course, but you can google around if you don't believe me.

If something were to be changed about the Hemoglobin Bart's entry, it would be linking it to Hydrops Fetalis (the official name of the cause of stillbirth when total alpha-thallasemia is present, which makes some hemoglobin Bart's form).

I also edited the Dix-Hallpike maneuver on your page if you want to look that over too.

i think you misunderstand the definition. read it again. giving one's name TO a thing, place, city or institution; not taking a name FROM anything but a person. there is a town near my hometown in canada. it is called smith's falls. that is eponymous, apparently having been named after somebody named smith. but if there were a 'smith's falls syndrome'comprised of terminal ugliness, abysmal stupidity and foul body odour, that would not be eponymous. at least that's how i read it. but we're debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. not to worry. i'm perfectly content to leave it there.
