Okulovka

Okulovka (Russian: Оку́ловка) is a town in Novgorod Oblast, Russia, the administrative centre of Okulovsky District. It is situated in the Valdai Hills, on the Peretna River, some 140 kilometers (87 mi) east of Velikiy Novgorod. The settlement was first documentally mentioned in 1495. Since the second half of the 19th century, it has developed mainly due to the station of the Moscow-Saint Petersburg Railway. The status of town was granted in 1965. Population: 13,050 (2007 est.); 14,470 (2002 Census); 17,197 (1989 Census).
