[edit] December 2007 attack

On December 19, 2007, militants attacked a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) jetty in the town, setting a boat on fire. Two deaths resulted. Musa Sagir, a Joint Task Force (JTF) lieutenant colonel, said the militants who carried out the attack were armed with AK-47s, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, and dynamite.[1] Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi ordered a 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM curfew imposed in the town.[2]
