One of the many secondary schools in Nigeria is Okota Secondary School popularly known as OSS. Okota Secondary School is located in a schools' complex in the Okota suburb of Lagos State, Nigeria. Okota Secondary School was founded in 1982 by the then military government of Lagos State. The school was carved out of the then Okota High School, its sister school. It was originally named Okota High School II but the name was subsequently changed to Okota Secondary School to reflect its new independent status, as well as its commitment to upholding the ideals of a competitive secondary education in Lagos. Its founding principal was Mr. C. S. Okuweh, who managed the school for over ten years. The school started with a few students but by 1986 when the fourth set of students was admitted, its population had grown to over 600.
Okota Secondary School is reputed in Lagos for its high academic as well as extra-curricular achievements including athletics. In spite of the many challenges it faces as a public high school, it has managed to hold its place among the reputable schools in the entire state of Lagos. Its students continue to achieve excellence at the West African Examinations Council as well as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examinations. Hence, it is no wonder that graduates from Okota Secondary School are found across all the continents of the world contributing meaningfully to their chosen fields of endeavor.
The school's anthem is a reflection of its determination for academic success. The anthem is rendered thus:
Okota Secondary School, from you I've gained a lot; It's my promise to show the light, for the others to follow; Follow me! Follow me, follow me, to OSS to learn; Follow me, follow me, to OSS to learn; It's the only secondary school we have; In Okota Schools' Complex, known for excellence!
In our words and in our deeds, we shall always be truthful; We shall praise God for His mercies, on every one of us; Follow me! Follow me, follow me, to OSS to learn; Follow me, follow me, to OSS to learn; It's the only secondary school we have; In Okota Schools' Complex, known for excellence!
