State Highway 56 (SH-56/OK-56), runs 87 miles (140 km) through central and east-central Oklahoma from four miles east of Konawa in Seminole County to Okmulgee in Okmulgee County.

[edit] Route description

SH-56 begins at the junction of SH-39 and US-377/SH-3E/SH-99 four miles east of Konawa, and heads due east 10 miles to Sasakwa. At Sasakwa, the road turnes north, and runs in that direction for 31 miles to I-40, passing through the city of Wewoka along the way.

After crossing I-40, SH-56 makes a long arc to the east, and proceeds 11 miles to Okemah. From there, it runs north and east 35 miles to Okmulgee, ending at US-75.

[edit] Loop 56

  • SH-56 Loop runs 6.7 miles in Okmulgee from US-75 , east and south to US-62. It is an unusual highway, in that it does not touch its parent route. It serves as a bypass around the north and east side of the city, and provides access to OSU-Okmulgee.
