[edit] Route descriptions
[edit] Southern section
The southern section of SH-54 runs for 11 miles[1] (17.7 km), entirely in Tillman County. It begins at US-70 and runs north through the town of Hollister before terminating at State Highway 5.
[edit] Northern section
The northern section of SH-54 runs for 85.5 miles[2] (137.6 km). It begins at US-62 east of Snyder. From this point, it heads due northward to pass the western terminus of State Highway 49. For 3 miles through Cooperton it overlaps State Highway 19. Continuing northward, it intersects State Highway 9 and its business loop near Gotebo and serves as the eastern terminus of State Highway 55, at Lake Valley. It then meets State Highway 152 eight miles east of Cordell and turns eastward to overlap it for 7 miles.
After splitting off, SH-54 heads northward to meet Interstate 40 at exit 80. It then runs along the western limit of Weatherford and continues 17 miles north to end at State Highway 33 near Thomas.
[edit] Spur routes
SH-54 has two lettered spur routes, both of which branch off the northern section of SH-54. Both were once part of the now-decommissioned SH-69.
