Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security

The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security (OKOHS) is an agency of the state of Oklahoma that serves as the administering agency for United States Department of Homeland Security grant programs for the state. OKOHS is responsible for protecting the territory of Oklahoma from terrorist attack and responding to attacks should one occur.

OKOHS is charged with advising the Governor of Oklahoma on strategic objectives to reduce Oklahoma's vulernablitiy to terrorist attacks and for minimizing the damage such an attack would cause. The Office develops and implements a comprehensive statewide homeland security strategy and for administering a statewide response system. One of OKOHS's chief duties is the coordinating and distributing federal homeland security grant funds as well as implementing national homeland security plans when they are relevant to the state.

Whereas the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety is responsible for general statewide law enforcement and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management for responding to emergencies, the OKOHS is speificily charged with responding to terrorist attacks if such attack involves weapons of mass destruction.
