What the hell do "left" and "right" mean in this context? East or west please!!!

"Left" and "right" make more sense with rivers. A river has a direction (the direction in which it flows), and relative to that direction one can determine what is left and right. Imagine you are standing in the river and looking downstream. East and west do not work so well because many rivers have bends in all kinds of directions and do not form a straight line. --Chl 02:18, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
