Oirase, Aomori

Oirase (おいらせ町 Oirase-chō?) is a town located in Kamikita District, Aomori, Japan.
As of January 31, 2006 the town has an estimated population of 24,945 and a population density of 347.04 persons per km². The total area of the town is 71.88 km².
The town was established by the merger of the former towns of Momoishi and Shimoda on March 1, 2006. The town was named after Oirase River.
Mayoral elections were held in March 2006 with Mr Shoutarou Mimura being elected the inaurgual mayor.
Oirase is principally a farming community with its' main crops being carrots and green vegetables. The town has become commercially more vibrant with the construction of AEON Group, Jusco Shopping center in 1995 and the spin off retailing this has attracted.
Popular events in the town include a Salmon Festival, Momoishi and Shimoda street Festivals, and the Swan Day.
