[edit] Town of Sheldon

Please note that Oil City is within the *town* of Sheldon, Monroe County, Wisconsin, which is different than the *village* of Sheldon, Wisconsin in Rusk County. --BaronLarf 16:36, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Actually it is within the Sheldon township and probably has an Ontario, WI US mail address as it is the closest city. I live nearby and I snapped that photo. I am also in the Sheldon township and my US postal address is in Ontario, WI. Osirisx11 11:10, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
RFD, You linked to the sheldon city/town, but Oil City is not part of it, as no city can be part of another city anyways.
Oil City resides in the TOWNSHIP of Sheldon. See above. I don't think there is a wikipedia article on the township of Sheldon (yet). Osirisx11 21:06, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
I am getting confuse. I thought Oil City was in the town of Sheldon in Monroe County. But, I will go with the majority. Thanks-RFD 17:46, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
No, I don't think it falls within a town. Just a township, a county, and by US Postal mail, I believe it would fall within Ontario, WI. Osirisx11 10:50, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Please read the article Political subdivisions of Wisconsin. Every part of Wisconsin that is not a part of a city or village is a part of a town, not a township, whatever people call it locally. Oil City, despite its name, is not a city, only an unincorporated community. Cheers --BaronLarf 22:57, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
The mailing address for Oil City is a little interesting. Actually, homes on the West side of hwy 131 have a Norwalk address, while homes on the East side have an Ontario address. Interestingly, the area has a great deal of sink holes and artesian wells, and at least one well still has an oily residue from (apparently) the scam. Dork lord 02:51, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
