The Ohio Union is a student activity center at The Ohio State University in Columbus. The Ohio Union serves as one of two student activity centers at Ohio State (Drake Union is the other.) It provides facilities for student activities, organizations and events, and serves as a meeting place for campus and community interaction. In addition, many student services and programs are housed in the union, along with dining and recreational facilities. It also serves as the home base for the "Explore Columbus" program, which provides students with discounted (or free) tickets and giftcards.

[edit] New Union Building

The Ohio Union building, opened in 1951, is in the process of being replaced by a new building. Construction/demolition began in 2007 and the new building is scheduled to be finished for the 2010 school year. The new building will strive to be a model facility for other universities, like the original building was when it was completed. Ohio Stadium was chosen as the location to house most of the Union's activities during the transition period. As of January 30, 2007, the Ohio Union was officially closed and its staff fully moved into the stadium.
