[edit] History

The present State Route 627 was certified in 1989, and there have been no significant changes since its certification[2]. However, highway maps of Ohio from 1940 show a different State Route 627 in eastern Portage County. That highway was a north-south route. It extended from the intersection of Ohio State Route 14 near U.S. Route 224 in Deerfield Township north through Windham to Ohio State Route 82 in Windham Township.[3][4] Much of the former route is now inside the Ravenna Arsenal, and has been since soon after the 1940 highway map was published. The route south of the Ravenna Arsenal is now Ohio State Route 225, having been realigned to the former 627 around 1970.[5]
