Offworld

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Offworld was a computer bulletin board system created and operated by Joey J. It was the largest system of its kind in both Los Angeles and Saint Louis, sporting 32 incoming phone lines at its peak.

Offworld started as Dial-Your-Match #88 in 1984 in Los Angeles. It was moved to Saint Louis in the Fall of 1991. In 1994, it was shut dow permanently amidst controversy over responsibility for user-contributed content, which BBS journalist Jack Rickard discussed in his magazine Boardwatch in 1993.

Offworld ran under MS-DOS using DLX multi-user software by Richard Gillman, with additional customized software routines written by Joey J, which gave the system several unique features.
