[edit] History

When Octavio was younger, everybody loved to hear him sing opera. But just when he was about to become famous, the tastes of music changed to rock. He was then recruited by the mob, members of which enjoyed his singing, and rose up to become a mob boss. When Sly Cooper and Bentley arrived in Venice looking for Murray, Octavio was all but in control of the city. His only resistance was Interpol forces-including mercenaries-under Carmelita Fox and Lt. Gronk.

Determined to regain his lost chance for opera glory, Octavio used a ferris wheel to pump tar (with help from his friend, Giovanni) into the canals and foundations of the city. His plan was to draw Venice's population to his opera performance, then force them to keep coming by holding the city hostage with threats of sinking the buildings. However, he soon found his efforts being disrupted by Sly and Bentley, who destroyed his advertisements. An antagonism was soon established between him and Bentley, whom he managed to capture at one point.

Fortunately, the Cooper Gang was able to thwart his efforts by destroying his tar pumps. After an opera duel with Bentley and quick chase through the Venice canals, he sunk one of the buildings the player sees in the background (or used to) before attacking Bentley, knocking him out of his wheelchair. Murray leapt into the fray, challenging Octavio and defeating him. Octavio, unconscious, was then arrested by Carmelita Fox.

Sentenced to prison for 30 years, Octavio found an ironic bright spot. While in prison, he became the opera success he'd always wanted to be, as, according to Sly, "most of his old fanbase was already in the clink."

[edit] Personality

Octavio is an old school villain, often referring to how things were in 'my day'. He is also very prideful, intolerant of anyone who tries to upstage him, and is hardened due to a life of vicious crime, barely fazed by any of the team's affronts.

When Sly must follow Octavio at one of the first missions in Venice, you can hear Octavio singing.(He`s probably practicing for the moment when he has forced the population of Venice to be fond of opera again.)

Although he has confrontations with both Sly and Murray at points throughout the episode, a special target of Octavio's appears to be Bentley. The mobster abducts him while Sly is detonating Octavio's opera ads and runs off with his wheelchair towards the opera house, remarking that he apparently plans to 'scoop out his brains and use them to fertilize his tomato plants' (to which Bentley humorously replies, 'I'm allergic to tomatoes!'). He seems to carry some sort of grudge against Bentley for getting away afterwards, as he refers to him as 'Mr. Tomato Fertilizer' before their opera duet in the final operation, swearing to gut him after the aria (he can be seen edging closer to Bentley after every verse, and beginning to lunge before Sly drops the chandelier), and strikes out at him when Bentley stands up against him for sinking the buildings.

Bentley is the only member of Sly's team that Octavio does not underestimate (he replied sarcastically to Sly's threats and taunted Murray's reluctance to fight). Like Dr. M, he is aware of Bentley's brainpower and contribution to the team, stating that 'they'd be nothing without the little guy's brains'.

Bently fiercely refers to Octavio as a 'monster' during the final operation in Venice (also as a 'fiend' after he notices that Octavio flooded an aquarium with tar during the 'Octavio Snap' mission). It was more than likely due to his strong sense of environmentalism (also hinted at by his disgust when they find the Australian Outback torn apart by the greedy miners).

[edit] Abilities

Despite being of an advanced age, Octavio is incredibly fast and strong. The only way Murray was able to slow him down enough to fight him was by luring him into pools of tar. Octavio`s most common attack is a triple punch. Octavio also had a powerful sound attack, unleashing an operatic assault consisting of sonic waves, as well as an attack similar to Murray's "Thunder Flop".

[edit] Trivia

  • In the prototype version of Sly 3, Octavio wore a blue suit with no shoes, his porcelain mask was off, and he had white hair. In the final game, however, he was redesigned as younger, with blonde hair, a hat, a black pinstriped suit with a cape, and his now-trademark Porcelain mask. An image of this prototype can still be seen on the Sly 3 official site in the villains section.
  • Octavio and his episode are a parody of "The Phantom of the Opera". The intro of the episode use a similar writing style as the play's script, the mask is similar, in the intro of the episode a tune similar to the Phantom's theme is played, a rose is in intro, a chandelier drops in both and in the book the Phantom threatened to blow up the Opera house.
