Ochamchira district is a district of the internationally unrecognised Republic of Abkhazia, de jure part of Georgia. Its capital is Ochamchira, the town by the same name. The district is smaller than the eponymous Georgian district, as some of its former territory is now part of Tkvarcheli district, formed in 1995. The population of the Ochamchira district is 24,629 according to the 2003 census.[3] Some Mountaineous parts of the district are currently under Georgian control, being part of Upper Abkhazia.
