The ocellate triplefin, Apopterygion oculus, is a threefin blenny of the family Tripterygiidae, found around the coast of New Zealand to depths of between 14 and 186 m in reef areas of broken rock and shellgrit. Its length is up to 6.3 cm.
The ocellate triplefin's second dorsal fin has an ocellate black blotch distally on the fourth to the sixth membranes, the anal fin has about 11 dark streaks, and the pelvic fin is basally black, rays distally yellowish, with brown spots. The dorsal fin spines are densely covered with small spinules.
