[edit] Needs expansion

This article has recently been cut back from what it was a while ago. I recall reading something about a restaurant and various other commercial buildings in the community. I believe there is a supermarket and a branch of the Portage Credit Union, along with a branch of the Portage Co-op. There is still a Pool grain elevator in town, although it may no longer be operative. I believe it is privately owned. There is a set of railroad tracks running through the community, and there have been two train derailment accidents within five kilometres in the past fifty years. Futhermore, there is an elementary school which teaches children from kindergarden until grade eight. There are two churches, the Knox United Church and the St. John's Anglican Church. There was a period of time when the town's name was changed from Oakville to Kawende in an attempt to avoid confusion with Oakville, ON, but shortly after the name was restored to the original Oakville.

These are a few things which could be written in about the community, and there are other noteworthy things which I can't properly think of right now.
