[edit] Curriculum

The subjects that students are required to take are English, Mathematics, Sciences, Art, IT, PE, Geography, Technology, Music, History and a foreign language.

[edit] Foundation studies

Foundation subjects are taught in one room with a singular teacher. These lessons include Geography, History, RE, IT, PSHE, Music and English.

[edit] Languages

A process known as Dual Languages operates in the school. In Year 7 the language taught is German. (Until 2006 the language taught in the first year alternated between German and French.) In Year 8 a second language is chosen, either French or Arabic.

[edit] Options

In Year 9, students select one of three study paths

  • Path A is the vocational path; in this path a student learns through job placement and gains experience in a workplace setting.
  • Path B is the diploma path; subjects studied on this path provide qualifications such as the BTEC diploma or DIDA qualification.
  • Path C is the standard path; qualifications gained from this path are AQA/Edexcel GCSEs.

'Core subjects' are compulsory for each path. These are English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, RE, PSHE and PE. English and Mathematics provide full GCSE qualifications along with Technology. RE and PE provide half course GCSEs. Students have a choice as to whether or not to take IT. The ECDL course leads to a basic qualification proving competence in IT. The AIDA course forms about one-fifth of the DIDA course and is taken primarily in the student's spare time. ***********************************************************************
