Oakland Charter Township is a charter township of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is usually referred to as "Oakland Township". The population was 13,071 at the 2000 census. Rochester Community Schools serves a majority of the area, while Lake Orion Community Schools and Romeo Community Schools serve the rest.
The area is known for extravagant homes and subdivisions. Located on the outskirts of Metro Detroit, much of the area is wooded and undeveloped, making it appealing for those looking for privacy. The rapper/actor Eminem has a large residence in Oakland Township. The area is also home to local athletes and business executives from Detroit and the metro area. Oakland Charter Township is borderd to the south by the City of Rochester Hills. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.8 square miles (95.2 km²), of which, 36.4 square miles (94.4 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²) of it (0.92%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 13,071 people, 4,341 households, and 3,772 families residing in the township. The population density was 358.8 per square mile (138.5/km²). There were 4,529 housing units at an average density of 124.3/sq mi (48.0/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 94.14% White, 2.00% African American, 0.09% Native American, 2.62% Asian, 0.19% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.19% of the population.
There were 4,341 households out of which 45.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 80.2% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.1% were non-families. 11.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.26.
In the township the population was spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 29.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.5 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $102,034, and the median income for a family was $107,268. Males had a median income of $80,354 versus $41,208 for females. The per capita income for the township was $42,616. About 1.7% of families and 2.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.5% of those under age 18 and 1.7% of those age 65 and over.
