Oakhurst is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Oakhurst is located 46 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Blacktown and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.
[edit] History
The suburb was developed by Landcom in 1981 following rezoning from rural to residential. Prior to the name change, it was a part of Plumpton. Landcom named the development the Oakhurst Estate, and the estate name was adopted as the suburb name. It is believed that the "Oaks" house provided part of the name, with "hurst" (meaning hillock or wooded eminence) being added. [1]
