Oak Beach

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oak Beach is a small community located in the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County, New York. The Eastern part is gated whereas the Western part is not. The census considers it part of Gilgo-Oak Beach-Captree, New York There is also the Oak Island community nearby, which can only be accessed by boat.

The land is not owned by the residents, but is on long term lease from the Town of Babylon. In the early 1990's, there was litigation by the state to not extend the lease. After much negotiation, the lease was renewed, with a ramp up in costs.

Although mostly residential, this was also the location of the infamous Oak Beach Inn, before it was torn down in 2003.
