Talk:O Valencia!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Valencia refers only to the street, not the name of the girl. And it is not about gay lovers, just because he never identifies the sex of the protagonists lover doesn't mean its about gay people...

It also doesn't mean that it's not. On the Bus Mall from their last album is generally agreed to be about two men, and San Francisco is a rather conspicuous city to set the song in - it's not like the band's even from California. The theory that the song's story is about a homosexual love is extremely valid and it shouldn't be ignored.--64.30.2.130 16:10, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Colin Meloy lived in San Francisco for several years. Grace Cathedral Hill is also set in San Francisco, and California One talks about the Pacific Highway and the famous California wine industry. Something being about or from San Francisco doesn't mean its arbitrarily gay. San Francisco has a long naval/nautical history as well, making it an even more likely locale, as if Meloy's personal experience weren't enough. There aren't even any sources to indicate anyone other than some anonymous editor thinks the song may be about a homosexual relationship. The claim itself is dubious, and hurts the credibility of this article, not because it has anything to do with sexual orientation, but simply because it has no logical foundation other than "nobody said it wasn't" (when nobody said it was, either).

From the video released by the band, it is not a song about a homosexual relationship. It is about a man and a woman from 2 different mafia families falling in love and then the woman being killed by her family for dating the other guy. Metsguy234 (talk) 22:17, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

There's nothing in the song lyrics about her father shooting her in the back of the head, which is what the summary claimed happened. I changed it.Choiniej (talk) 17:44, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
