OS Duraisamy Gounder (commonly known as OSD or Maniyakarar) is from a wealthy, landowning, agricultural community. As a seasoned politician and well polished man, he held the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) positions at the State(TN,India) Assembly in MGR Cabinet.

He was one of the prominent figures from his caste Vettuva Gounder. He was the President of Vettuva Gounder Sangam until his death. He was also responsible for building a new Lord Muruga temple on top of Nagamalai at Arachalur which is his home town. He was also one of the key person responsible for bringing the Navarasam Arts and Science College for Women College to Nagamalai, Arachalur.

He is survived by his wife Ranjitham Duraisamy, who is continuing her husbands community works. He is a close relative of Late Mr Paramasivam IAS - Personnel secretary of Ex Chief Minister MGR.

He hails from Kotora thottom , Arachalur. The place is a coconut groove on the banks of Bhavani river Arakonkottai kalvai.
