RE: Remixism

It isn't actually enough for something to be just nonsense to merit speedy deletion, it actually has to be patent nonsense:

  1. Total nonsense - i.e. text or random characters that have no assignable meaning at all. This includes things like "1`- 5bl[9 1vn]304 0=10am[0v9a1 7", where random keys of the keyboard have been pressed.
  2. Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to make sense of it.

Remixism is neither of those, so AFD is the proper process for it. - ulayiti (talk) 11:43, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Since you have recently posted at Enterprise resource planning I thought you might like to see that I too have added some stuff both there and to its Talk pages. This is just a courtesy notification that I have updated the article since your last activity there.

I believe that I have altered the tone of the article to correct what I thought was an unfortunate WP:POV, or historical bias, but there is also an issue with respect to adequately presenting information about commercial software, open source, and homebrew. Hey, I noticed you've edited loads of manager pages to correct the link to the ITFC page, manager subsection. I think that you could probably have achieved this by editing the template instead of each individual page. But that probably doesn't help now! But good work nonetheless...! what does the 'and tottenham' bit in the over land and sea chant mean? and also I know the name hammers comes from the thames ironworks, and is not to do with west HAM!

Looking at the spud page gave me a few ideas... I looked at a player at random called Pass who scored 4 goals in 38 Southern League games, yet scored 6 in 12 in the Western League... this immediately says "reserve team player" to me.. There would also be more records/league tables/appearances etc. of the league in the club records if it was a competition considered worthy of the first team. Yet, I can also believe, from my reading of that period of the club's history, that even if it was a 'reserve' league, 1st teamers may have taken part because of financial obligations ie. the club has to stage the fixture in order to draw in extra revenue. Hi Nzd - I've had a delve through my records of Arsenal matches (it's a spreadsheet based on results from a now-defunct stats site). I can't find any record of a West Ham 6-0 win during the war years, the FA Cup win in 1946 excepted. According to my list Arsenal and West Ham played four times in 1940, as follows:

  • January 20 - West Ham 3 Arsenal 0 (League South 'A')
  • March 16 - Arsenal 2 West Ham 3 (League South 'A')
  • April 8 - West Ham 2 Arsenal 1 (League South 'C')
  • December 25 - West Ham 4 Arsenal 2 (Southern Regional League)

The only one of those that is after June was the match on Christmas Day, although the scoreline doesn't match. Looking further ahead in time, there were no other big wins for West Ham before the 1946 cup tie - there were a few 3-0 results, on January 24 and April 6, 1942 and October 21, 1944. My results are fairly complete (leagues and cups, and a few friendlies) - perhaps Chapman's recollections were bit fuzzy, and he confused his appearance in one of West Ham's wartime victories with the 6-0 cup match? I find it a bit queer, because the consensus on the AfD was to delete the article along with its edit history. From the record only AlexWilkes has contributed actual content, so if he doesn't really mind about James084 doing the merge (and with acknowledgement that it is merged content from what I see in the edit summaries [4]) then I don't really see a problem here. - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 22:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello Nzd, Can you help me out, please? I recently edited the Alan Sealey article. It was a couple of sentences but now contains a fair bit of informnation. I removed the 'stub' tag. I looked at the stub pages and there was plenty about classifying stubs, but I couldn't see any guidance about removing the tag. I was 'bold' and removed it. You have put it back. Nzd, sorry for the late reply to your comments about my West Ham website. I also apologise for my aggressive tone in my first posting about the removal of the Wikipedia link to my site. I am still a victim of my tough working-class childhood.

I created my Spartacus Educational in 1997. I was a history teacher who wanted to produce materials that my students could use when studying local history. The website was popular with students all over the world and so I decided to make it into a full-time job. This of course meant that I had to find a way of funding the website. As I was fully committed to the idea that this information should be available to everyone who wanted to use it I rejected the subscription model. Instead I sold advertising space on my site. For many years I ran the website at a loss. However, since the emergence of Google AdSense, it has been possible to make a living from a website.

I am unclear why I should be criticised for selling advertising space in order to keep information free. I am aware that Wikipedia does not carry advertising. However, is a site owned by a multimillionaire morally superior to one being produced by an educationalist?

In fact, my main intention has been to create materials that have little commercial value in book form. I have therefore concentrated on writing about the past from the perspective of those without power. Historians tend to call this approach: “history from below”.

I went to school in Dagenham and have been a supporter of West Ham for over 50 years. As I have created a website that provides me with a reasonable living, I decided to spend the next couple of years producing a comprehensive online history of West Ham. This will enable students to research the subject in some detail. When I was a teacher a lot of the students were unable to do GCSE coursework on the history of West Ham because of the shortage of materials online. Hopefully, my website will able to change that situation.

My plan is to produce a year by year account of the history of West Ham. So far, I have produced the first-draft of the first 12 years.

The analysis of every season includes links to pages on individual players. So far, there are 62 biographies but by the time I have finished there will be over a 1,000.

I believe that it will become the most detailed account of the history of any football club on the web. I will not bother to add links to these pages at Wikipedia. Instead I leave it up to your good judgement to decide if Wikipedia visitors will benefit from such a link.

On the subject of links, I would highly recommend that you consider providing links to John Farley’s excellent website on West Ham.

Unfortunately, John Farley’s pages do not rank very high in search-engines and his work is therefore being missed by West Ham fans.

I am using my site to give access to all the good sites on West Ham. These links appear on every one of my pages (including to Wikipedia).

I am hoping that this will be a collaborative effort. I will be posting messages on West Ham forums for fans to send me any information they have on early players. I am also hoping that relatives of the players will also contact me with information. This has happened with the rest of my website. Web surfers often do searches for relatives. As a result I have obtained a lot of material from the relatives of the people I have written about.

His name is listed as George Furnell at the West Ham United F.C. Player & People List website, and also in the book Blows, Kirk & Hogg, Tony (2000). The Essential History of West Ham United. Headline. ISBN 0-7472-7036-8. . I'd guess one may be a middle name, and there are precedents of players using their middle names at the time, for instance Henry Thomas Bradshaw, better known as Tom Bradshaw. David George Furnell? I've checked their entries at www.allfootballers.com (unfortunately this is a subscription only site so I can't link to it) and this confirms that the father was James William and the son was James Guy.
