Talk:NZB

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NZB is a file format. Maybe it would make more sense to rename this article to .NZB? Djames 16:57, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Or create a redirect?

Category? Shouldnt it be in the file format category?

I dont know how much of a file format NZBs actually are. Aren't they just XML files named NZBs to promote the site that created them? --Triedandtested 22:46, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] list of clients with NZB support

needs to be expanded; it doesn't even have the most common/popular ones --67.168.0.155 06:14, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

NZB is not a protocol. Just a file format in plain text using xml-based tags. NZB contains the list of newsgroups where the realease was posted, poster's name, subject and file list, and, for every file posted, a list of its segments and the size and message id of each segment.

I partially rewrote the article to try and explain better what an NZB files actually is, ie not a protocol.--Triedandtested 22:30, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Am I the only one to see a problem with that article, being mostly links to sites/clients/etc? Unencyclopedic? - Chuck02 06:41, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Explanation severly lacking "These websites create NZB files out of what is needed to be downloaded. Using this concept, headers would not be downloaded hence the NZB method is quicker and more bandwidth-efficient." That makes no sense and is obviously missing a ton of information —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.86.116.8 (talk) 04:35, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Controversy

The semi-recent controveries could be listed regarding NZB sites. For example the MPAA filing papers against various nzb sites such as nzbzone.com and them latter closing down as a result. You could link to the MPAA press release as a source. I might do it myself if noone else has a go. --Triedandtested 22:30, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Some technical details.

DTD located here, XML namespace here. The NZB files don't seem to be compressed, although that might be a useful feature if it does allow that. -Matt 01:23, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

We consider compression to be outside the context of the spec; it's normally going to be transmitted over HTTP, so HTTP compression is expected to be used there. -Fweeky (talk) 22:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] GotNZB is history

The link for GotNZB leads to a page (as of aprill 11, 2007) that says "Site Down - Not Coming Back (Or at least any time soon...)" - 207.207.80.84 17:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
