Camp coldwater

Good catch on Camp Coldwater, when it was first posted I did a google search on some of the sentences but I didn't get that page. I have deleted the copyvio text and will stub the article out more shortly. Thanks. -Ravedave 15:04, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

HBot3

Nyttend, Thank you for calling my username to my attention, and I have already taken action. I do not want to cause any avoidable confusion. I would like to briefly comment on your merging of Mayfield Township with Defunct Townships. The Mayfield Township article was made for the sole purpose of the defunct township, and in hopes for further expansion. None of the information from the Mayfield Township article was carried over into the new article, which was all relevant, and met encyclopedic criteria. Also, this "merge" was done without any discussion. I would like again to thank you for your help, and I understand that your decisions were made in good faith, like a Wikipedian should. Cordially, --HBot3 20:13, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

That's fine, I decided to just include the information from the original article in the new article. --HBow3 10:13, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

CSS and HTML markup

Well, they're only really essential if you create websites for a living! But they can be useful when using Wikipedia, particularly when styling tables and infoboxes, for example. I've got a few minutes to see if I can get your user page sorted out, so I'll have go now. That's easier than explaining CSS and HTML markup. If you're interesting in knowing a bit more, I'll find some of Wikipedia's CSS and HTML-related help pages and provide the links a bit later. Adrian M. H. 14:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

That looks a quite a bit better now. If you want to change that layout, but you're not sure how to go about it, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Regards, Adrian M. H. 14:40, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks much! Nyttend 15:21, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Largest city question

Hi Nyttend, I went through and updated all the Ohio county infoboxes recently (added dates, etc. and two sources). In the process I only filled in the largest city field if it was a city other than the county seat. For Greene County I listed Kettering, even though it is in both Montgomery and Greene Counties, as it had the largest population, even though it is mostly in Montgomery Co. (Beavercreek is the biggest city entirely in Greene Co.). An anon editor recently changed the Greene Co. infobox (note the charming edit summary) [1]. Anyway, my question to you is what do you think should be done about largest city? In most cases it is the county seat, so it seems redundant to me to list that twice. At this point I want it to be consistent for all 88 counties, but otherwise don't care too much. Since you seem to be one of the only other people systmatically working on Ohio counties, I wanted your opinion. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 14:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

  • I fixed Greene County - the anon took out the equal sign so largest city was not showing up (though Beavercreek was listed in the code). I can see one of two plans: 1) We can ask User:Timneu22 who has been working on the county infoboxes about a "county seat and largest city" line to the template. 2) It might be easier if I just made another pass through and added largest city (already checked them all the last pass). I don't recall too many other counties where the largest city was in multiple counties.

Sorry about Hermitage Township - you can ask an admin to undelete it and paste the info in your talk page or sandbox to recreate the article. I think there is also an undelete appeal process, but forget what it is called. There are a few paper township articles in Pennsylvania (see Augusta Township in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania for one I recall), so it seems notable and should be (re)created. I guess I should have used {{prod}} and not {{db}} - sorry again. Take care, Ruhrfisch 18:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

    • Carroll County, Ohio has part of Minerva, which has more total population than the seat (Carrollton). I looked at the census website but could not find pop by county, so I left a footnote in the infobox. What do you think? Ruhrfisch 03:19, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
      • Clermont County, Ohio is even more complicated - two largest cities are split between two or three counties. I listed Amelia as largest, with a note about Loveland and Milford. I will keep looking at the census to see if I can find something. Nothing is ever easy ;-) Ruhrfisch 03:39, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
        • Just as I was despairing about Delaware County (the totals for Columbus, Dublin, and Westerville are all larger than the city of Delaware), you saved me. I will come up with a simpler note based on the OSU web site you found, thanks! Ruhrfisch 03:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
          • Milford is larger and I will fix it and then go to bed - does the wording of the note seem OK otherwise? Thanks again, I got through the D's. Ruhrfisch 04:07, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
            • Thanks, glad it is clear. If the seat and largest city are the same I will only link the seat (first mention in infobox). I also fixed Greene Co, since it started all this. Good night and thanks again, Ruhrfisch 04:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Largest village

Agreed. I tried it ("Largest village" in the template instead of "Largest city") for Vinton County (diff [2]) and it didn't work. I will ask User:Timneu22 to add the parameter. Largest borough would be useful for Pennsylvania. I might also tell him about not double linking the largest city of it is the same as the seat. I finished my pass through all 88 Ohio counties. My last pass I checked populations, but it is still possible I missed a largest X or two, so if you have any you want to check please do so. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 14:49, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

  • You might want to weigh in at Template talk:Infobox U.S. County on this question. Ruhrfisch 14:58, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
    • I fixed all 14 Ohio counties where the largest municipality is a village (tried to come with an "it takes a village..." pun, but couldn't). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
      • YOu are very welcome - thanks for pointing out the discrepancy in the first place. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:07, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not vandalizing

How is correcting misinformation wrong. The Eastwood Mall is the biggest Mall in America, then The King of Prussia, then Mall of America. Not that California mall. Just read this article. [3]appropriatusername

Wow. I did not realize Eastwood Mall is now the biggest mall in America, and I'm from that area! In fact, that same mall is the one I would frequent as a teen. I really need to go back home more often... (No point to this commentary, just some random sharing on a wikifriend's page.) -- SwissCelt 16:01, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

County templates (AZ)

Hello, I saw the question you posted up on the Arizona wikiproject regarding county navigational templates in Arizona. I took a look at the ones you made for Yuma and Santa Cruz counties, and I believe they look pretty good. I should point out though that the distinction between a city and a town is fairly marginal and largely historical. The governmental structure of a city is generally more complex than that of a town, but in terms of powers and responsibilities they are functionally identical. Additionally the idea that cities are larger than towns is also largely historical. For example, El Mirage is a city at 22,121 population whereas Gilbert is a town with 173,989 residents. Since the differences between city and town are negligible and largely of historic value only here in Arizona, I'd suggest putting them together (cities/towns) in your templates rather than splitting them up.

You might also want to take in to consideration that there exists some precedent for grouping by population size as well. See, for example, Template:Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Personally I don't like this format - city populations, particularly here in Arizona, tend to grow rapidly and are not good for groupings. I prefer the grouping by city/town or CDP, as you have done, but just figured you might want to take that under consideration. Arkyan(talk) 18:16, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

The Phoenix template I provided is somewhat ambiguous in terms of what it includes. It seems to include all of the municipalities in Maricopa and Pinal counties, as well as some (but not all) of the CDP's. There is some contention as to how to define the Phoenix Metro Area - whether it is a firm definition from the Census bureau, or based on a more intuitive "what locals consider to be the metro area". Personally I favor using the Census bureau's definition if only for the sake of attribution, butI have yielded to the consensus on this issue :) Anyway hope i've answered your questions. Arkyan(talk) 19:16, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Done! I added my thoughts to the proposed move. Arkyan(talk) 23:03, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Excellent job with the county templates. Good work! I wonder if it's possible (and if this is too much work then don't worry about it) to give the templates a hide/show feature? I know it's an extreme example but Apache Junction, Arizona has a listing in 3 distinct templates and having so many clustered up at the bottom seems to clutter the page some, and the ability to hide the templates might help cure that. But only if it's not too much work :) Again, great job and thanks! Arkyan(talk) 06:31, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Bellefontaine's GAC

Hey there. I thought I should tip you off on why I nominated Bellefontaine, Ohio for Good Article status. User:Epbr123 assessed the article as "start class", which is the lowest possible assessment for an article that's not a stub. This editor also did so without leaving any comments, which essentially degrades the article-- how can we improve it if we don't know what to improve? I don't like assessments anyway, but assessments without comments just leave a black mark on the article and devalue the contributions of tireless editors.

So I tried removing the quality part of the assessment for now. He/she reverted my edits twice. Finally, I nominated the article for GA status in the hopes of bringing the quality scale up. It was a desperation move, as I could think of no other way to keep the article from forever being a start class article. This SAME editor failed the GAC, mere minutes after I nominated it. So now not only does the article have an ugly "start class" rating, it has an even uglier failed GA status on it. I'm fed up. I feel as though the article was vandalized by a drive-by editor, and I don't feel that I have any recourses to correct it. -- SwissCelt 13:10, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Aha, I see what you mean. I saw that bit and simply assumed that someone had nominated it for GA and quickly been turned down, with nothing else happening. Nyttend 13:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
So what can we do about it? I'm in a cooling off period right now (self-imposed), so I won't do anything today, but I would very much appreciate your advice. -- SwissCelt 13:17, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Not much of an idea. I usually don't do anything with this kind of ratings (too subjective for me), and my input was just a guess. I suppose the intro could be expanded, and the geography and economy as well. Do you get the Examiner's online edition? There's not that much of economy notes in the Examiner generally. Nyttend 13:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
I know the article can be improved, certainly. Hmmm... Maybe I'm just worried too much about it. The whole process just upsets me, as it seems to be an easy way to snipe at other people's work without adding anything constructive. -- SwissCelt 13:32, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
One thing that could help the geography section is a picture and account of Campbell Hill (regardless of whether it comes with an ", Ohio" :-). I hope to go to get a picture sometime this summer.
At any rate, look at other cities. Articles as significant as Carson City, Nevada and Biloxi, Mississippi are rated start-class. Perhaps the cities Wikiproject is just really stringent. Nyttend 13:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

RE: Scioto County

Yeah I've been meaning to take some pictures of Scioto County recently. But have never got the time to do it. Hopefully I can do it this summer before going off to Ohio State in the fall. I also need to refer to some articles in Scioto County. We sort have troubles with political corruption in these parts of my county and needs to be looked at instead of being censored or edited by pessimists. Surely Jimmy can come into the KYOVA region. Your information added to all the townships looks great. Spongefan 20:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Kansas images

As to the ... tons of places with no pictures ...
I live on the Kansas side of KC, the east side of the state ... west side of the city. The origins of humanity is just a history topic to me.
I would be willing to take pictures of various places. Where? What?
I like geography and places too .. I had done the Grinter Place ...
For Kansas counties, I'd do it ... as long as they are not too far away — gas is high and the oil addiction sucks ...
Again ... I'll try to find some that need it ... but ...
Where? What? Tell me ...

Marysville, Kansas and Black Squirrels

On your edit for Marysville, Kansas I do believe that you are right to move the History section, but I question why the section on "black squirrels" was removed. Other cities and towns in Wikipedia have "town nicknames" listed if there is one, and I don't see why Marysville would be the exception to that.

Please explain.--Paul McDonald 02:05, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Yavapai County, Arizona template

You may want to add these towns and places to your template:

Clemenceau, Arizona (new page), old company town, now part of Cottonwood, Arizona

Rimrock, Arizona (where I live) and McGuireville, Arizona -- unincorporated towns/places in the Lake Montezuma, Arizona CDP

Page Springs, Arizona, uninc. community in the Cornville, Arizona CDP

Cherry, Arizona (new page), ghost town

Cheers, Pete Tillman 08:05, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply (at User talk:Tillman). That all sounds reasonable, especially since old mining towns out West typically had/have many named communities/areas.

Geauga County

I hope you don't mind me asking, but why are you reorganizing the town articles in that way. Many of the sections that you are shortening have incorrect grammar, and if you look at other town articles, you will see that the demographic sections are supposed to be there and in that form. Also, some of your information is incorrect, such as the fact that Bainbridge, Ohio is located inside of Bainbridge Township. They are completely separate places. 71.31.149.98 03:23, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to revert your changes, or at least add the demographic sections back, for now. 71.31.149.98 03:24, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'm going to leave most of your changes intact. However, unless there's a good reason for it, I think that stating that a place is the only town/township/etc. with that name in the state is a bit redundant. 71.31.149.98 03:38, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about the midunderstanding. I didn't realize that the township articles were different from census-designated areas. 69.40.245.190 02:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Sterling, Ohio

The link to the Volapük Vükiped that you've restored points to Sterling, Utah, not to Sterling, Ohio. There is currently no article on Sterling, Ohio, in the Volapük Vükiped. I still need to find time to look at Ohio townships and write Volapük articles for them; that will take quite a while, given my current schedule. In the interest of consistency, I've removed the link again. Please don't restore it, you'd be restoring a wrong link. --Smeira 18:07, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry, it happens. (The other day I was copying information from an article on a small town in Utah to the Volapük Wikipedia to translate, and by mistake I saved my translation onto the English article (I had both open in parallel windows, they had the same maps...). One and a half minute later another Wikipedian reverted the change and thought I was doing vandalism. I apologized, sighed and went on.) --Smeira 08:49, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm assuming all the same regions as before would be viable, but you might want to double-check... Alai 02:29, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

No, that's what I was suggesting; sorry if I was unclear. I was just listing the by-county numbers for (relative) ease of reference in checking the regions would be viable (i.e., all over 60 articles). However, I would suggest by-county templates, since experience tells us that there's no end to how much this stuff will grow, and because the regions are somewhat vague and mutable, while the counties are much less so. Alai 03:43, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Hardly a lot rarer; there's nearly 800 Ohio-school-stubs now, which more than there were Ohio-geo-stubs until very recently. `And as the above numbers illustrate, some of the individual counties are well on the way to the threshold by themselves. And I'm afraid I don't see the downside to the model I suggested. Alai 04:12, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

It's a good general principle that admittedly does start to seem a little silly in its application in the extreme case, if say Morgan County really only does have one school stub, but for the sake of symmetry it's probably best to create them all on the same pattern, with template scopes corresponding to the permcats. BTW, I think this earlier proposal pretty much covers the formalities. I'll make a start tomorrow if I get the chance. Alai 04:32, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When using certain templates on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. lacking in tact...

The treatment of Cstanfie and the Jay S. Thomas article is panning out to be the most niggardly display of wiki editorial abuse and harassment that I have ever witnessed. Regardless of the issues of religious and racial discrimination, this is turning into a calculated and craven effort to stifle individuals, not simply what you consider to be arbitrarily lacking. The personal attacks need to stop and the harassment of Cstanfie and his associates must desist, pending previously stated ramifications. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rellis0415 (talk • contribs) 12:36, 18 June 2007

Well, this was a project that I started earlier this year (see the list here Wikipedia:WikiProject Illinois/Townships). I got away from it to do some other things, cleaning up and whatnot. I simply need to finish off these 27 county townships, and well almost all the precincts. Maybe I can convince you too come help us out real quick here in Illinois! haha --Kranar drogin 04:12, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Naw, I will just keep plugging away here. With the geobox, it isn't that bad to do, just gets boring after awhile. But I figure, once I get it done, it will be done. One thing I noticed when I did take a quick glance at a few of your townships is that you don't have the Ohio wiki project on the talk page. You may want to add that in your articles, but that is up to your project. Luckily, I have my template I use for each county copied on word, then I just copy and paste, and change out the few things that need changing, ie founding date, coords, pop, etc. Thanks for the comments though, I do appreciate it.--Kranar drogin 13:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Wulfrida

Why remove the speedy delete? --ZxqamF 12:39, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

You proved your point after the first post, and if you notice, I didn't replace the speedy deletion tag. You had a valid reason, and one that I hadn't considered. Your second and third posts are excessive. --ZxqamF 14:10, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
My reasoning was that, knowing nothing beforehand about the subject, the article gave me no information. I did not know what it was talking about, and, quite frankly, the title Wulfrida seemed questionable. You quickly found it and fixed it to a reasonable state, but as it stood when I tagged it, it was quite useless. --ZxqamF 14:17, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi. The map from the 1874 Titus Atlas shows all of the townships currently on the page, with the exception of West Park (which you already wrote about) and Riveredge townships. As far as I know, the best source for more information is the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History. In addition to the articles, the Encyclopedia also has a series of maps showing civil subdivisions in 1843, 1903, 1928, and 1995, and another series displaying population in 1910, 1930, 1980, and 1990. From a cursory look at the maps, it appears there are a few townships that need to be added to the list, like Goldwood and Rocky River townships. - EurekaLott 12:46, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

1806

Actually, the Roman empire lasted sometime after the fall of the Byzantine empire, in name anyways. The Holy Roman Empire lasted untill 1806, and clearly it was a "Conscience attempt to ressurect the western Roman empire, which was considered to have ended in 476" (See wiki Holy Roman Empire) so if you wanna get technical the Roman name (As a political entity) wasnt wiped from the face of the earth untill 1806. --Sir Kindle 23:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Just name of Rome

I was really saying that the "name of Rome" lasted untill 1806, being that Fredrick II called himself the Holy Roman Emperor, and his realm the Holy Roman Empire. So even if the HRE wasnt a true heir to the Roman Empire (which could be argued) the name still exsisted(on paper).

I do believe the HRE was a heir to Rome for many reasons, but that it was also a Romano-Germanic empire, I dont want to list all the reasons here, but they exsist. But either if it was or not the name exsisted untill 1806, and I believe that is noteworthy. --Sir Kindle 01:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Places in Ohio

Actually, Volapük Wikipedia has articles of most US cities and towns. The only problem is that they were isolated, i.e., no other Wikipedia "knew" about their existence through interwikis. I just ran the bot against the whole Volapük Wikipedia and voilà! Volapük interwikis started appearing everywhere ;). Cheers, Malafaya 17:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Fighting game article

I'm writing this here because I don't know how else to contact you. I received a message from you about a change I made in the fighting games article. I have made the change again but this time addressed it in the discussion for that page. The change is not at all unreasonable and, in fact, I am just the latest in a chain of people that have attempted to remove the ridiclous rant about SEGA Lindbergh PCs that an individual has repeatedly posted in the fighting games section. This section that I have removed comes across as an advertisement, lacks any references, and is more of a rant than an encyclopedic article. Thanks.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.79.40 (talkcontribs)

Prebilovci

Could you please help me move the page I just created (you showed interest in on the talk page, doubtin accuracy which I am not suprised as the crimes of ustashe are sometimes hard to believe) - it should be titled Prebilovci massacre, not Prebilovici as I titled it by mistake (second letter i should be omitted). Thanks! Roramaster

Thanks for moving the page. I disagree about POV tag however - the article merely lists what happened. How is this POV? I also thik you may be missing that this happened in WWII, and that genocidial policies of Ustasha regime are undisputed fact. It is not the issue from the 90s war, and villagers were certainly innocent - but that is not mentioned in the article. You seem to say that you have a problem with implication that ustashas were commiting crimes against innocent serbs. However, that is exactly what was going on in WWII - I do not think you can dispute mere description of this as POV. Ustasha regime in WWII had a policy by Pavelic and Mile Budak, that explicitly called for extermination of Serbs. If you have an impression that it is wrong to call this genocide an evil, thats up to you, but the article does not qualify that as evil explicitly - how can you write about a massacre in NPOV way except by being factual? Fighting games

The edit you reverted at Fighting game was not vandalism, it was actually the removal of some very unencyclopedic material constantly reposted by a spammer obsessed with the game Kwonho (which I refuse to link to out of spite). Easy mistake, but please read the material before you revert an edit. For the specific problems, see the talk page. JohnnyMrNinja 07:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Releasing all rights is nice, but if he's not comfortable with that then any other free license is good too. See WP:ICT#For image creators for some suggestions.

The Atlantean Language Institute

The article was deleted without anyone reading my explaination. I followed all the steps you gave me.

My page matched the Klingon Language Institute in detail and it remains. That is the third site ever on the Atlantean language, and the second of two that remain in exitance. It's important for the information that it contains and it's important for its being rare. I am the foremost scholar on the language, though my degree is in the Humanities.

I was going to use that page as a spring board for a new article on the brother site to The Atlantean Language Institute, The Vulcan Language Institute. I feel very frustrated. I was doing the Encyclopedia a service by providing articles related to Marc Okrand's languages.

Ovni

The group Ovni appeared on Conciertos de Radio 3 on TVE 2 (a national channel in Spain)- a 1 hour special. Their video "Tu Necesidad" is on rotation on MTV Tr3́s, METV, Mun2, and many other channels. Their album Aterrizaje is released by Nacional Records (a part of Warners)in the United States, and for these reasons (all of which would fulfil the notability criteria) I added them to Wikipedia. Before leaping to quick deletions for articles regarding contemporary culture, could you possibly take the time to find out whether your lack of awareness of a subject is mirrored by a similar level of knowledge within the general readership of Wikipedia. I don't believe Wikipedia is the place for promoting groups, but the purpose of the article was to explain what Ovni means, as the name would not make sense to a non-Spanish speaking audience who would now be aware of the band.I didn't spot this in time to do a hang on. Thanks. Sarcasmon 18:56, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

But there are lots of people out there who are indeed not notable, so keep right on looking for those articles. Queen Elizabeth Cannon image

Hi, I got your message about the licensing for the Image:QueenElizabethCannon.JPG. It is from a page in a book. When I used the file upload wizard I selected the link for "a cover or other page from a book". However after that there was no licensing tag specific for "a page of a book" only a book cover so that is the one I had to use. If you can suggest another that would be great. Hello Nyttend, thanks again for your contributions to de.wiki. I (and also Zollernalb I saw) wikified your new articles. The spelling and also formatting have been already very good. Whenever you need help no timidity to ask for. --Oxymoron83 10:50, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello Nyttend, it is the normal practise of the German Wikipedia to use the official title. I was irritated by the few inhabitants and thought it was an translation related error. I've changed it back now, sorry for any inconvenience caused. I've had problems with the word 'district' in the past as there are a lot of German words for which have different meanings (e. g. Bezirk, Stadtteil, Kreis, Regierungsbezirk). If you want to expand the aricles, don't hesitate with the sources; e. g. I think it would be no problem to insert infrastructure related information as you live there though dubious statements should ever be sourced. --Oxymoron83 22:06, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I finished it and have put it up at WP:FLC. I was wondering. if you could do a quick look through it to look for any typos and the like that I may have missed. Thanks, Wizardman 00:45, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

The first one I can do no problem. With a widesreen I try to take normal comps into account, but it was hard due to the sizes and everything. For the number of townships, I honestly don't know how I'd add that in, since the county template is pretty set in stone. You could talk to tompw about making a template that includes that though. Editorial comments

Obviously, Nyttend is much more familiar with Wikipedia standards than I. However, I have reviewed the basic standards and fail to recognize exactly where this page "falls significantly short" of meeting those standards. Perhaps Nyttend would be willing to enlighten me, since I am unable to find any direct link to communicate with Nyttend directly.

Why don't you just leave a message on my talk page, rather than leaving it on yours? What you want to do is go to Wikipedia:Manual of Style, where you can see "In headings and subheadings: only the first letter of the first word, and the first letter of proper nouns are capitalized; all other letters are in lower case (for example, “Rules and regulations”, not “Rules and Regulations”);" Moreover, what you've written sounds like an essay about the history of Linwood, not an encyclopedic section. Nyttend 13:49, 10 August 2007 (UTC) As well, please don't plagiarise other websites, especially without attributing it. It's obvious that you've worked with this webpage, simply changing the wording slightly. Please don't do this; it's better to do a complete rewrite, as I've done. Nyttend 13:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Spmatthews"

Obviously, I am new at Wikipedia, so please accept my deepest apologies for offending your highly cultivated sense of Wiki style and etiquette, since you have 27,000 posts and obviously have nothing better to do than police new Wikipedia entries. It would have been considerate of you to contact me BEFORE making editing changes to an entry and submitter you could tell was new, but hey I guess being European explains that. I appreciate pointers regarding Form and Style, but how about leaving the picky details of my writing style to me, unless it VIOLATES Wikipedia rules. I'm trying to offer people facts and information. If you're trying to get people to delete their entries, you're succeeding. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spmatthews (talkcontribs)

I can't imagine what you mean by asking me to read Wiki:NoPersonalAttacks, unless you're trying to apologize for your rudeness. Maybe you don't have any responsibility to ask my permission to make changes, but yours seem to stick and mine keep getting revoked, so you've got the inside track on me Nyttend. Not to mention that your "rewrite" of my entry is nothing more than a "rephrase", and if you're going to edit something how about finishing the job. If you're going to add a footnote, then add the footnote, not just the notation for a footnote. Since you're the expert, how about telling me exactly how my writing style violates Wikipedia "rules" instead of just claiming that it does. If you are intersted in helping out a newcomer, then take some of your presious time and help! Don't just criticize! If that's not in the "Don't bite the newcomers" guide it should be! I hope you're happy with your Linwood, KS entry to Wikipedia. Silly me, I thought it would be my work, but hey it's your Wiki, so enjoy. Spmatthews 18:19, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Laramie

Hi Nyttend. Thanks for the improvement to the Reference section of Laramie. I'm relatively new to Wikipedia editing though not new to editing in general. Your fix resolves an opaqueness problem I had been wondering about. I wasn't sure if the general reader would know enough to click on a tiny blue footnote number to check a reference. You've solved the problem, and in the future I will do footnotes in the manner you've illustrated.

I do disagree with one other change you made to Laramie. Another Wikipedia editor suggested to me that multiple references to the same source (such as the one to the Laramie Museum) should not be reduced to ref=name after the first instance but that each instance should include the full citation. Otherwise the possibility exists that a future editor might delete the first instance and, thus, accidentally ruin the whole set. If you agree with this line of reasoning, I'll put the full information back into the subsequent Laramie Museum instances. Finetooth 17:00, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

So I think I'll add that and then remove the links. Will try to get to that in the next couple days. IT's good that you brought this to my attention. TimidGuy 10:44, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

List of counties in Ohio

My apologies for not replying to your first message sooner on including the number of townships. Should you still wish to include them, use {{Countyrow}}. I added my thoughts about the FL nomination to its pafe at WP:FLC. You might also want to check out WP:COUNTYLISTS (and add your name to the list of particpants) for general advice and information. Shawnee Twp

Saw your revert to include Lima as part of Shawnee Twp. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing an old map of Allen County with a separate Lima city and Lima Township, which of course would be a paper township now. Lima was included in the original survey township but is not (or is not longer) part of the civil township. (I don't see much distinction on wiki articles - but I'm sure no one in Lima pays any sort of tax to Shawnee.) It all boils down to the complicated annexation laws (withdrawal from township or "partial" annexation where it joins the city but stays in the township. I'm going to look for source on Lima Township and the legal position of the parts of Lima in the survey township. I'll keep you posted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prinzwilhelm (talkcontribs) 21:07, August 20, 2007 (UTC).

Shawnee Twp

I've seen the maps before and it's not 100% accurate. For example, Dayton was never a part of Mad River Twp in Montgomery County although it appears it was.

Reagardless, Lima is no longer part of the township and hasn't been for quite some time. Fort Shawnee remains in the township. I'm not sure how to make that distinction, although other Ohio township pages seem to leave out cities that have withdrawn from the townships:Symmes Township, Bath Township, Sylvania Township, etc**

I suggest we list cities that are no longer part of townships as bordering neighbors.

    • Other cities, mostly rural in nature do not withdraw from their township for example Wapakoneta, Fort Shawnee, etc. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prinzwilhelm (talkcontribs) 22:01, August 20, 2007 (UTC).

Wailea-Makena, Hawaii

To Nyttend: hope this is the right place to put this comment, sorry if not so, I also placed on "Wailea" page talk page. Hi, I created this page originally on 11/11/05 and contributed the bulk of the non-statistical information, and my contributions you are removing represent valid and useful external links to reference materials not covered here such as Hawaiian cultural resources, books, film festivals, as well as urban planning guidelines for "Wailea" which is a master planned community on Maui. I believe your deletions violate the spirit of Wikipedia policy in that my contributions do not represent vandalism. When I created the Wailea page in 2005, which later someone merged into a "Wailea-Makena" page which also had only very minimal dry statistical information at that time, the intent was to provide more cultural depth to the resources made available to the Wikipedia visitor. Although technically the film festival site and the cultural Hawaiian book sites may be for-profit businesses, I would suggest to leave it to the intelligence of the Wikipedia user if they choose to go there or not. The external links are at the end of the page and if the reader is at that point and still reading that may mean he/she is seeking additional information in which case those external links may be useful to him/her. P.S. The Hawaiian language dictionary link has popup ads but it is still a highly useful cultural resource as Hawaiian words are used in place names throughout the islands. The popups are outweighed in my opinion by its benefit as a cultural resource. When I created the Wailea page in 2005, which later someone merged into a "Wailea-Makena" page which also had only very minimal dry statistical information at that time, the intent was to provide more cultural depth to the resources made available to the Wikipedia visitor. I read all the instructions at that time although I am not highly skilled in Wikipedia policy but everything I did seemed to be in keeping with policy at that time. Your slashing out large parts of my 2005 contributions seems to be not in keeping with the editorial policies I looked at recently. Wailea 19:08, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

de.wikipedia

Hello Nyttend,

I'm back from vacation; nothing to find fault with your contributions on de :). Only a spelling correction: Instead of "Hergestellte Artikel" better use "Artikel erstellt". Do you have any unclarities? Regards :) --Oxymoron83 07:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Geneva College with Bmstephany

Pictures

Dear Nathaniel: Let me first say that I work for Geneva College. Second, the pictures that I posted are owned by the college. I know this not only because I work there, but because I work with the college Web Master who explained the process by which they acquired the photos and now own them. In fact, these pictures were taken from the Geneva College website. Also know that I am not new to Wikipedia but I am new to editing content. With that said, it may be proper ediquette to notify you of any changes but it is certainly not a requirement. Additionally, any copyright issues concerning these photos should be policed by Wikipedia and not yourself. Finally, if you insist on replacing my pictures with your own please do the college a favor and put a respectable photo(s) on the Geneva College Wikipedia page. The picture of the track and soccer field is covered in snow! Nathaniel, please understand that once I figure out the technicalities concerning the copyright issues with my pictures they will be going up in place of your less favorable photos. My hope is that this is the end of this episode. However, if you would like to talk in person so as to resolve this issue please stop by the Admissions Office when you arrive back on campus and ask for Bryan.Bmstephany 02:06, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Pictures...Again

Nathaniel: Just wanted to note that I took a few of my own pictures today and put them on the Geneva College Wikipedia page. I did replace your picture of Johnston Gym only because I feel it is a slight aesthitic improvement (more green and less snow). Please do not be offended. Also, I believe I have included the appropriate copyright tag on my personal pictures. If there is a violation please help me through it as I am new to uploading pictures. Finally, at some point I think it would be a good idea to replace the picture taken from the south end of campus as it is difficult to make anything of the picture with all the snow on the ground. If I get a chance I will take one today and post it tonight. Let me know what you think. Nathaniel, please know that I respect all that you do for Wikipedia and that I only want what is best for both Wikipedia and Geneva College. Let us both do our best to give an accurate and respectable depiction of our wonderful institution. Grace and Peace!Bmstephany 17:20, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Notable Alumni

Nathaniel: I have reverted your changes (to my changes) on the Notable Alumni section of the Geneva College page. It is without question that both Dr. Steve Garber and Walt Mueller are of notable distinction. The definition for notable is: 1. Worthy of note or notice; remarkable, 2. Characterized by excellence or distinction; eminent. Additionally, these men are no less "notable" than individuals already on the list such as Casey Hageman, Joe Beggs, and Norman Clyde. Any variance in leaving Dr. Garber or Walt Mueller off of the Notable Alumni list is purely a matter of individual preference (based on your social and intellectual networks) rather than a matter of what can be considered popular opinion. I hope this is reasonable enough explanation to leave these two gentlemen on the list. Grace and Peace!Bmstephany 21:26, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Removing Alumni Again

Are you trying to upset me? If so, it is working. You edited the page and then remarked that "no reason is given that they're notable," when I was very thorough in my explanation concerning their notability. Additionally, I have consulted the the notability criteria and the Wikipedia:Notability (academics) page. Under these guidelines (which I am sure you are familiar with) these two men are "notable". If you took them off the page because they are redlinked then please take off Casey Hageman and Gerald J. LaValle before I do. Also know that I am working on creating a page for both of these individual as adviced by an administrator (who did not change my edits). Honestly Nathaniel, what is your problem? You don't own the notabilty list and you don't own the Geneva College page. I am one of many people both on Geneva's campus and off that feel Dr. Mueller and Dr. Garber are notable, so get over it and leave my edits alone. I am not vandalizing this page, I am trying to make it better but your ego is getting in the way. Grow up, get a life and get an intellect. Once again, I am more than willing to have this discussion in person if you are willing to talk when you get on campus. My guess is that you are too childish and immature to do so. Grace and Peace!Bmstephany 23:43, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Criteria for notability of people

A person is generally notable if they meet any of the following standards. Failure to meet these criteria is not conclusive proof that a subject should not be included; conversely, meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included. As you can see, the bullet points you copied me do not mean that your two notable alumni are "inherently notable". Also, if Gerald J. LaValle and Case Hageman are notable then make a page for them.Bmstephany 00:54, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Resolving our Dispute

Nathaniel, I would like to respectfully engage you in a dialogue about adding individuals to the notable alumni section of the Geneva College article. I feel that you have not only been too quick to revert my edits but also that your reverts are based on personal opinion and not Wikipedia guidlines. Let's talk this through before having to go to Wikipedia: Third Opinion or an Administrator. I have begun the discussion on the Geneva College talk page. Additionally, it may be best to handle this conversation in person with all the proper documents in hand, such as all Wikipedia guidlines and other materials. Your thoughts? Bmstephany 17:48, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Not quite sure that this applies to me, since I'm only a Geneva student, but it definitely doesn't hurt to have this here :-) Nyttend 04:56, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

While you may already have read it... just incase, I thought I would point you to a short discussion I have had with this user here. :) --Dreaded Walrus t c 02:12, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

cyclone vs tornado

You recently edited the Grinnell College wikipedia entry to change cyclone to tornado. I invite you to participate in the talk page Talk:Grinnell_College#Cyclone_vs._Tornado on the topic. Pdbailey 13:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Location map templates

I saw your question at User talk:Ruhrfisch. (Actually, I posted the same reply there, but just in case you aren't watching his page...) It would probably be more convenient to use {{Infobox Settlement}}, which calls {{Location map}}, which in itself calls {{Location map Ohio}}. Using {{Location map}} takes an existing map image and superimposes a dot on it with a caption. That way, nobody has to upload extra maps. I've added {{Infobox Settlement}} to Adams Mills, Ohio as an example. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 22:43, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Nyttend, Elkman's solution was what I was going to suggest as well, although I knew of the same feature in {{Geobox Settlement}}. Just to be clear, if you have latitude and longitude in the box, the maps are calibrated so that the dot is in the right location. Hope this helps, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:43, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
