[edit] Pow, straight to the Moon

Does "Nyamwezi" really derive from the Swahili "people of the moon" as this article claims? The story sounds a little too clever to be true, especially because "nya" is not a Swahili prefix. Malangali 14:15, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes it does, and I have the explanation in my notes around here. I just need to find them. :) I'm going to go completely from memory here, but I seem to recall the reason was, that the Nyamwezi came from the eastern part of the country where the moon rose over the land. —Viriditas | Talk 21:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tagging for cleanup

Much of this is rambling, repetitive and contradictory. Needs a heavy edit and pruning, with inline refs, and removal of non-sequiturs. Rexparry sydney 06:07, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. 207.200.116.134 (talk · contribs) was not open to collaboration, as the edit history shows. :) —Viriditas | Talk 21:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Historical and present Nyamwezi

There needs to be clearer boundary between what is historical and what is present. As it is now, the sections Social organisation, Economy and Slavery are all describing the historical situation only, not the present, so I am putting them as subsections of the history section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.255.6.148 (talk) 20:27, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
