[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Dear Nw adelman: welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user talk (discussion) page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. A third option is to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator.

One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!

Black Butte Ranch

A tag has been placed on Black Butte Ranch, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:200px-King_of_nipal_copy.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:200px-King_of_nipal_copy.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih 01:01, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright violation: Image:Kgkjhgy.jpg

Uploading the same image under a new file name and license, but without any description/source info will still get a photo deleted. With the above picture, you must have physically taken the picture, not just uploaded the picture, in order to own the copyright and be able to release the copyright. Since this picture seems to have come from here, The Oregonian clearly owns the copyright. Please stop uploading copyrighted pictures that do not have valid fair use rationals, I have seen editors who continually upload copyrighted images blocked from Wikipedia. [edit] Copyright problems with Image:Kgkjhgy.jpg

An image that you uploaded, Image:Kgkjhgy.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Aboutmovies (talk) 01:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey now

Adelman, there are lots of us who would like to see Oregon's political figures, like Kevin Mannix, better illustrated on Wikipedia. But we have to respect copyright law, and provide images that will withstand the scrutiny of anyone on Wikipedia. If the images you upload are not deleted by us today, they will be deleted by someone else tomorrow -- guaranteed. There are literally thousands of Wikipedia editors around the world who take its compliance with copyright law very seriously, and continually check images.

So, your third upload of the Kevin Mannix picture from the Oregonian web site, Image:Litoyhf.jpg, is a waste of your time, and of ours. At best, you will accomplish getting the article illustrated for an extra day or two. If you want to put energy into improving the encyclopedia -- and you clearly do -- there are much more productive ways to do it. A good start would be to reply to any of the comments being left! Also, here is a link to a somewhat related project that might interest you: User:Peteforsyth/leg. Best regards, -Pete (talk) 00:15, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
