Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori plans to be Europe's first private open access high speed train operator. NTV was created by four Italian businessmen (among them Luca Cordero di Montezemolo) to compete with Trenitalia.[1]

An order for 25 Alstom Automotrice à grande vitesse TGV trains was announced on 17 January 2008.[2][3]

By 2011, NTV plans to launch high speed services in Italy using the AGV trains on the TAV lines on the following routes[3]:
- Torino - Milano - Napoli - Salerno
- Roma - Bologna - Venezia
- Roma - Napoli - Bari
